Madden NFL 11 News Post

Madden NFL 11 fans should expect to purchase digital content this season, according to this write up from IGN.

Quote:
""I think we need to move much quicker, in particular with Madden, through a digital world," Moore stated. "You're going to see more announcements there how we digitize our Madden consumer.

It keeps the disc in the drive longer, it stalls trading the game in, it allows me to be able to take further advantage of that consumer over a longer period of time," he said. "Even if we do get second sales, we see that as an opportunity to drive digital margins."

"Sports games, because their seasonality runs out, are always something tempting to trade in. We've got to be able to build business models around allowing that consumer to trade it in and then monetize them," he added

"We're certainly going to do a lot of that this year."

Good find first off.

Second off if they would add all of PS2 to PS3/360 people prob wouldnt trade the Madden games in so early.I never traded in my Maddens on PS2.Played them till the next one came out.

Anyone who willingly gives EA Sports their money after that article has serious problems.

I wonder how they could digitize madden? I do like how they want to prolong the life of madden. Making a better madden game goes a long way to help prolong its life. And obviously ultimate team was a major feature that made ea more money and also extended it somewhat.

I agree, I'm sure that some team members are still 100% focused on the actual gameplay portion of the game.

Sounds like someone combined the words digital and monitze. Means digitaly take your freaking money. EA is like anyone other mega corporation, there only overwhelming goal is to increase the bottom line.

"it allows me to be able to take further advantage of that consumer over a longer period of time," he said.

As if they didn't take advantage of us already. He should really choose his words better, or do a better job hiding their real intentions...

DLC is a huge component of games now. I love how everyone bitches and moans when sports games try little add-ons but praise other genres for doing the same damn thing: holding back content and issuing it as paid-DLC.

I see no problem with this considering everyone else is doing it and consumers have proven to eat it up. If you dont want the content then dont buy it, no one is forcing you to.

I'm sure Moore was really trying to speak to his companies share-holders with these quotes; trying to say that Madden can attain more profits for the company.

I love how the EA is trying to extend the life of madden this coming year. Even when some people trying to give madden a bad rep. Madden is a great game that just needs some better graphics and tweaks here and all . I am glad to see ps2 been dropped from the support now. Now they can focus more on the next Gen system madden to make it much more fun to play in the near future. Can't wait for the first blog from Ian and company later this month.

not sure how to feel, im going to take a wait and see approach. It sounds like a good thing but part of me feels that it might be gimmicky downloads, something that would take focus away from sim play, but this is just a very quick off the cuff reaction

wonder if they will be willing to pay me for a bigger hard drive to play their digitized games?

The only DLC I could imagine buying for Madden would be real life draft classes files.

So when the 2011 Draft Class comes out in real life, they release a roster file we can load into Madden for our next franchise offseason.

Word!

The statements in that article speak to exactly what is wrong with that company. Can you smell the arrogance and cockiness? I will stick to SC"EA" and The Show.

# 14 Stikskillz @ 03/01/10 10:26 PM
One more simplistic idea... make a quality game and people won't trade it in.

There are so many people that kept '09 the Show until tomorrow, including myself. Now that's quality!

I would not mind pay for extra plays and playbooks..

Yeah playbooks would be a bit much, but i might consider draft classes.

You notice that he says, "it allows me to be able to take FURTHER advantage of the consumer" That means he knows that they are already taking advantage of us with every madden release, but he wants to take advantage more.

You know, I used to love Madden and I always wanted to see it succeed over 2k in the past, but not now. I wish there was some kind of way to get this quote spread to the masses of people out there that buy madden and the DLC content every year. I want them to see what the head man at EA sports thinks about them. I want them to see that the head honcho at EA sports is not concerned with making a quality game, but he IS concerned about ways to be able to take further advantage of the consumer.

In my ideal world, people would see this and get upset. They would protest these comments by not buying madden 11. This would cause sales to be in the thousands instead of the millions. The NFL would then feel that EA is a liabilty and find some loophole in their contract to get out of the exclusivity agreement. Other companies would then be able to make NFL football games again and harmony would be restored in the football gaming universe. This is what would happen in my ideal world. Since this is the real world, I guess I just have to settle for this rant/post about the quote.

One final thing, I have to say that Peter Moore definitely has some kahunas. For him to come out and blatantly say, "we are trying to take advantage of the consumer", is pretty ballsy. What does he have to be afraid of though? If you want to play an NFL football game, you got to go to him. This is pretty much like him slapping you in the face and saying "whatcha gonna do?" You can't do nothing if you want to play a NFL football game this year.

Peter Moore and friends have officially lost their marbles...smh....."get an extra $4 or $5 out of us" WOW!!!!!

How about we get a COMPLETE game out of EA before they continue to attempt to nickel and dime us! lol Shame on them....Madden 11 hype just went down big time.

I have a PhD and I'm not even sure what he said. Just make a better game then you won't have to digitize anyone.

It would probably help if you had a PHD in BS cause I'm pretty sure that's what most of that was.
