2K Sports Announces NBA® 2K11 to be Available in 3D on PlayStation®3 System

Offered exclusively at Best Buy® on November 16th; free downloadable upgrade for current game owners over PlayStation® Network in January

New York, NY - November 2, 2010 - 2K Sports today announced that NBA® 2K11, the top-selling and top-rated NBA video game simulation franchise*, will be available in 3D on the PlayStation®3 (PS3™) computer entertainment system. This immersive NBA 2K11 3D experience will be available exclusively for the PlayStation 3 system at Best Buy starting November 16, 2010. The 3D version of the game will play normally on any television set; however, a 3D HD television with compatible 3D active glasses will be needed to enjoy the game in three dimensions.** All current owners of NBA 2K11 for the PlayStation 3 system will be able to download an upgrade to enable their game to play in 3D for free from the PlayStation®Store for the PlayStation 3 system starting in January 2011.

"The authentic broadcast presentation of NBA 2K11 is something we're really proud of," said Greg Thomas, president of product development for 2K Sports. "The new 3D capabilities literally add a new dimension to the experience and provide a level of immersion that has never been experienced in a basketball video game."

Now presented in 3D, NBA 2K11 offers an extra layer of depth to what many critics are already hailing as the deepest, most immersive, and best sports game of this generation. In NBA 2K11, players can become Michael Jordan for the first time and relive his greatest moments with the Jordan Challenge. With realistic physics, lifelike player models, broadcast-quality presentations and feature-rich simulation, NBA 2K11 is the most complete experience ever available in a sports game. NBA 2K11 also supports the PlayStation®Move motion controller on the PlayStation 3 system.

Although I am happy about the future of gaming, I hope 3D doesn't become default..

Don't have the funds for 3D just yet :'(

I may have to buy the PS3 version of 2k for this feature. I'll check it out at BB to see if it's 'worthy' of a purchase.

Has anyone here ever seen a 3D HDTV? I haven't seen on display yet. If anyone knows a place that has them displayed in NY it would nice.

I think about 1/1967845th of the population has a 3DTV. Not sure on their sales, I read somewhere that they're not that popular atm due to pricing. LOL

They are usually set up in your local best buy... Just go to TV section and a 3D TV will be there with a couple couches and a couples pairs of glasses... In DC/MD both states* I've seen it in every store set up how I described.

My TV is 3D ready, but I would have to buy an additional piece to access the 3D feature. I guess it's cheaper than buying a new TV right?

Yup I've seen one..Every time I go to Sam's Club I see a Samsung 1080P LED 240Hz 3D TV that does not need goggles. The remote is awesome too..I think its a touch screen remote..and the tv is ultra slim..like 2/8-3/8 in thick on the edges..the center is a little thicker where its attatched to the support/base

Not to get into it, but all 3D tv's require the 3D glasses for 3D programming. Not for regular 2D uses, but for the actual 3D picture, they're required.

I am very fortunate to have a 63 inch Samsung 3D TV and it is pretty amazing what the picture looks like in 3D. There is not a lot of programs and movies in 3D right now but it’s getting better. ESPN is now broadcasting their college football “game of the week” in 3D and Comcast has about 25 free movies and shows in their ON Demand section in 3D.
The reason why the NBA 2K11 3D is on the PS3 and not the Xbox 360 is because the PS3 has a Blu-Ray player built into the unit which now has 3D capability after the last firmware update. The Xbox 360 doesn’t support Blu-Ray technology yet.
The 3D experience is nice but I do admit it is pretty expensive to purchase the 3D TV and special glasses ($150.00 per pair). At least if you have a PS3 you won’t need to purchase the Blu-Ray player because it is built into the PS3.
I’ll check out the event on November 16th to see if I will buy NBA2k11 for the PS3. Right now I’m playing it on my XBOX 360 and loving it!

So am I reading this right? If I already own the PS3 version and want 3D I have to wait until January for a patch or have to buy it AGAIN on the 18th? Thanks for the shaft 2K.
