NBA 2K12 News Post

ESPN has announced the 15 legends in NBA 2K12 and their opposing teams. Both sides should have 10-12 accurate players represented according to the article. Here's the list of players and their opponents in the game:

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
86-87 Lakers vs. Celtics

Larry Bird
85-86 Celtics vs Hawks

Julius “Dr. J” Erving
84-85 76ers vs Bucks

Wilt Chamberlain
71-72 Lakers vs Knicks

Patrick Ewing
94-95 Knicks vs Magic

Magic Johnson
90-91 Lakers vs Blazers

Michael Jordan
92-93 Bulls vs Hornets

Karl Malone
97-98 Jazz vs Spurs

Scottie Pippen
95-96 Bulls vs Sonics

Oscar Robertson
70-71 Bucks vs Lakers

Hakeem Olajuwon
93-94 Rockets vs Nuggets

Bill Russell
64-65 Celtics vs Lakers

Jerry West
70-71 Lakers vs Hawks

Isiah Thomas
88-89 Pistons vs. Bulls

John Stockton
97-98 Jazz vs. Lakers

Bonus Teams
1990-91 Warriors and 2001-02 Kings

Chris' Take: Seems to be a lot of a 'been there done that' with several of the guys and teams on the list. BUT, that doesn't mean it's still not cool (for now). Some of the guys are pretty exciting such as Oscar Robertson, Bill Russell, and Wilt Chamberlin. If the rosters from the opposing teams are spot-on as mentioned in the article, then this mode gets a lot more exciting and that appears to be the case. But really, a lot of the guys from the 90s and late 80s are rehashes of last year's teams on the Jordan Challenge. And it appears you have to play (or I'm sure pay) to unlock the teams in exhibition.

NBA 2K needs all it can to top last year's effort sales wise, I'm highly skeptical it's going to be able to match it with the NBA Lockout and a legends lineup that feels cool but somewhat rehashed as well -- but the mode should be quite cool at least one more year.

They got 1991 Magic, but the Magic we've seen has his 80s goatee, which he didn't have in the 90s. Unless the goateed Magic we've been shown is from Kareem's 1987 Lakers team.

No AI or 3 peat Kobe?!?!? Im pretty sure if they included the 01 76ers and the 01 or 02 Lakers as DLC instead of those other two teams, they would definitely sell more units. As a AI and Kobe fan, (and theres plenty out there too) I would buy the game just to play with those teams.

Still a great list though.

I actually don't think Barkley's on the game. The ESPN article kind of eluded to the fact that he would be excluded from the game.

Sam Vincent is shown as number 11 of the Celtics in one of the Doctor J's screens. So I guess he is in the 1986-87 Celtics as a bench player.

I can't wait to unleash the fury with Pistol Pete!

Can't wait till they release Legend gameplay, gonna be awesome to see the black and white Celtic vs Lakers footage. I'm hoping we won't see the 70s and 60s players dribbling between there legs and behind their backs with crazy size ups like todays players. I hope they have era specific ball handling it would just add that much more to the authenticity of the game mode.

I know that some people are a bit disappointed, but I love, love, love, that I don't have to chase any stats in any of these games. Having to hunt buckets with Mike last year, squashed my enjoyment of those games. Now I can just let every game play out in a natural fashion.

# 153 slliMMills @ 08/18/11 08:50 PM
I think 2K figured not too many people would pay for these teams as DLC, so they give em to us as part of the game. Then, later on the can sell us other teams...maybe even Barkley and Reggie? Hopefully...cuz, most of these teams was even on the pole (pause). So I figure they used facebook to see what we wanted...so later on they could sell it to us. Good way to make up for the money lost because of the lockout.

Has anyone made a list of all the legends that will be in the game? not just the 15 already announced. Like from all 30 teams. This will be a whole lot easier for people that want to make all-time teams. Cant wait for this.

# 155 thefranchise03 @ 08/18/11 08:53 PM
Wished they would of went way way back to the George Mikan era

# 156 jrivera34 @ 08/18/11 08:55 PM
It would have been nice to see Barkley but I am sure he is not in the game because of money. Either way, I can almost guarantee that I will barely even touch the current teams once I have all legend teams unlocked.

With Baseball season over for us Mets fans, the Giants not looking to good on paper, I am ready for some Basketball :-)

Great job 2K! Assuming the game "plays" as good if not better then 2K11.
