We'll find out what kind of defender he is this year playing under Doug Collins.

Somebody explain what the point of giving us Luke Walton's overall was? lol

# 43 letsbefrank @ 09/20/12 03:53 PM
L.O. fell off. Hope he can get back to his old self. He's in the wrong L.A. team though.

I agree with u but What that got to do with his rating?

I'm pretty sure he has plenty of respect. I think he's in the high 80's because he's a PF with sub par defensive abilities.

Jesus do you ppl even watch basketball around here? Or go off what you see in 2k?? What you just posted is what nick young is ungodly at in 2k. He doesn't play D and his shot is way more inconsistent than terry. And honestly he doesn't posterize anyone.

Jet creates off the dribble more that most SG it's just what he does.
I said Terry is just as inconsistent as Young.
Which isnt farfetched....But Terry's rating certainly is.
Jason Terry is a spot up shooter in today's NBA.
Maybe he used to create off the dribble. But those days are long gone. Getting chased off the 3 point line and CREATING a shot out of nothing are two different things.
What do we see more...Terry off the dribble or Terry shooting a wide open 3 because Dirk is doubled? Which is why losing Barea hurt the Mavs so much. Terry rarely creates any more. But JJ did for himself and others. Just facts.
No need to challenge my knowledge of the NBA.
I dont even play NBA 2k12...Just to let it be known.
But thats neither here nor there.

And if Young's Defense comes into question. Like I stated earlier
Hes top 15 in NBA as an ISOLATION defender.
I can pull stats and video to prove that but what for?
What is the basis for even saying Nick Young is a poor defender?
A couple plays? Numbers say otherwise and his numbers with the Clippers back that even further....
The NBA offense is all about isolation these days even more....he defended it well enough to be ranked 15th as an ISO defender in NBA last year...should translate to a well enough on ball defense rating.

Just saying...

and as far as Nick Young not dunking on anybody?...
Youtube Nick Young Dunks. He dunked on Lebron James...off two feet.
Dunked on some 7 footers. ...Go see for yourself....

Why does everybody want Rivers to be higher.. I must have completely missed him dominating in college or something

I've watched every Mavericks game since they traded for Terry and I can tell you that YES, he has been inconsistent for a lot of his time there, sometimes shooting the lights out for three or four straight games and then disappearing for two weeks. He was fantastic for the Mavs during their championship run and deserves respect for that, but his best days are far behind him, and he will show that in Boston too. And honestly, he's as much a catch-and-shoot player as there is in the league considering the minutes he plays... he's not a guy that's going to consistently break guys down off the dribble. He hasn't been that way since he played in Atlanta.

And can we please stop arguing about that scrub Nick Young? He's a chucker who barely broke 40% from the floor last year.

Yall trippin arguing Nick Young better then Terry.

Season averages
Jason Terry PPG 15 Reb 2.4 Assist 3.4 Steal 1.1
Nick Young PPG 9 Reb 1.5 Assist 0.4 Steal 0.52

Jason Terry attempted 874 FG all season and made 377
Nick Young attempted 206 and made 105

Career averages:
Jason Terry PPG 16.1 Assist 4.7 Steal 1.3 TO 2.06 0.380
Nick Young PPG 11.4 Assist 0.9 Steal 0.5 TO 1.16 3pt% 0.375

Jason Terry defensive rank in the NBA is 147
Nick Young's is 361

Jason Terry defended 510 shots this year and only 110 was made. FG% shot against Terry is 36.7 score % against 36.4
Nick Young defended 147 only 55 was made FG% shot against Young is 37.4 score % against Young is 40.7

So Jason Terry is better offensively and defensively then Nick Young. Despite taking more shots then Young over his career Terry is still more efficient in scoring.

Spoiler

John Hollinger wrote this today about Nick Young on ESPN.com

Quote:
Scouting report
+ Scoring guard who excels in catch-and-shoot. Can get jumper off over anyone.
+ Tall for a 2 and decent athlete, but an underachieving defender. Bad rebounder.
+ Has weak handle and rarely takes more than one dribble. Passes even less often.

Analysis
You can't score an emptier 20 than this guy. A neat summary of the Nick Young Experience is that he averaged better than a point every two minutes and still finished with a player efficiency rating well below the league average. Let's just say the non-scoring categories are a bit wanting. Out of 67 small forwards, Young was 66th in assist ratio, 66th in rebound rate, and 61st in pure point rating. Young's assist ratio was the worst of any player with a usage rate over 15.

Young doesn't get to the basket much, but he definitely can stroke it. He made 36.5 percent of his 3s and 44.6 percent of his 2s beyond 16 feet. However, he has a poor short-to-midrange game (26.3%) and averaged less than a field goal per game at the rim. As a result, his true shooting percentage was ordinary.

Defensively, Young has some ability, but his focus comes and goes and some of the bigger 3s can overpower him. He wasn't particularly bad, but his metrics were slightly negative across the board. Additionally, his inability to rebound remains baffling considering his leaping ability. Young had a worse rebound rate than Luke Ridnour, Derek Fisher, Chris Duhon and Nate Robinson, among others, which is just embarrassing.

Hollinger's write up on Jason Terry from a couple days ago

Quote:
Scouting report
+ Fast combo guard with deadly midrange jump shot, especially going right.
+ Not a true point guard but capable of creating off the dribble. Abysmal rebounder.
+ Lacks size and strength on defense but has fast hands. Better in cross-matches.

Analysis
Terry has become an ageless wonder, still putting up numbers as an undersized 2-guard thanks to his devastating accuracy with the jump shot. Terry shot 42.1 percent on 2s beyond 10 feet and 37.8 percent on 3s, with the latter accounting for nearly half of his shots. As a result, he averaged nearly a point every two minutes with a solid TS% even though he virtually never gets to the rim.

The biggest negative, offensively, is that Terry's turnover ratio keeps climbing. A jump shooter shouldn't be in the bottom half of shooting guards in turnover ratio, but Terry was last season.

Fewest Fouls Per 40 minutes, 2011-12
Player Team Fouls/40 min.
Steve Nash Phx 1.08
Jason Terry Dal 1.38
Joe Johnson Atl 1.41
Tayshaun Prince Det 1.48
Brandon Rush GS 1.49
Min. 500 minutes

Nonetheless, his primary shortcoming is at the defensive end. Terry has to cross-match defensively and check the opposing point guard, but quicker players can get by him and bigger ones play right over the top. His rebound rates are among the worst in basketball, although he doesn't foul -- only Steve Nash was whistled less often last season (see chart). Boston's personnel should allow Terry to keep cross-matching, and if so he'll continue to be very effective in his sixth man role.
