Joe Montana tweeted this CG image of himself... Twice, for some reason... with the following hashtags.

Quote:
#youvewaitedlongenough #joemontanafootball16

He then followed it up with a bunch of pictures from the Legends of Candlestick flag football game, which featured retired players (see the full rosters here) with Joe Montana and Dan Marino quarterbacking the respective sides.

The image Montana tweeted doesn't really match up, does it? Could we get a Joe Montana Football 16 announcement in the coming days or is it just wishful thinking?

With the exclusive license still in the hands of EA, if a videogame version of Joe Montana Football does arrive, it won't have any current NFL player names, likeness, etc.

Maybe it will feature retired players, similar to All Pro Football 2K8? Maybe it's going to be a simple mobile game. Your guess is as good as mine at this point.

Either way, if we do see a football game from Joe, with a 16 at the end of the tweet hashtag, we probably won't see it until 2015. Let's hope for the best.

If anything solid comes from this, we'll update everyone.

UPDATE: Thanks to jlfarris (via FaceMask), it does in fact look like a mobile game is in the works, utilizing Unreal Engine 4.

What are your thoughts?

Oh well.

Might be for Legends of Candlestick but that image is CG and completely inconsistent with everything else that has to do with Legends of Candlestick. Plus he's used the #legendsofcandlestick hashtag before, but it wasn't part of this.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see if it's something bigger, or just to promote Legends.

It's clearly a CG image. Also, the jersey doesn't match what Montana is wearing for this game at Candlestick.

From Steve Corkran via Twitter. Looks like one team will be in red jerseys and one in white.

Edited to remove the sideways pics. Montana isn't in this pic, but the sideways pic I had earlier was of Montana in a red jersey as well.

It wouldn't be the first time Joe Montana has starred in a video game:

He was also in All-Pro Football 2K8, for whatever that's worth.

His timeline is now filled w/ images for the real-life football game.

Well, that was disappointing! Really need a new feel of a football game. Such a shame for sports gamers.

Gonna go ahead and lock this for now, if a real video game shows up we can re-open this thread.

Going to re-open, only because it seems to be picking up a little steam on the net.

Yep. I just read an article in Pro Football Talk about it. He didn't add any new info but, he seemed to assume it's a future video game

I saw a post from FaceMask in the thread to sign if you wanted a customizeable version of 2K football where a dev was looking for a programmer for Joe Montana football - a mobile game.

Thanks, but FaceMask deserves the credit, he's the one who posted yesterday about the mobile dev that Joe Montana owns and the job posting in the forum from April that I linked.

FaceMask's original post from yesterday - probably the one I should have linked in the first place.

Looks to have the NFL license because it's mobile I assume.

Those screens look good. Looks like it will have the NFL license since they have a shot of the Texans stadium. I'm excited to see where they go with this.

The terms of the agreement between the NFL and EA place no licensing restrictions on mobile games and on browser games:

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/big.../1100-6114977/

"The NFL/EA arrangement encompasses action, simulation, arcade-style, and manager games made for PCs, consoles, and handhelds (both the DS and PSP, included), giving EA a firm hold on the football gaming market. The deal does not include titles for mobile phones or Internet-based games, but does include online features of consoles. With next-generation consoles scheduled for release next holiday season, EA looks to handily dominate the professional football market for the duration of the license."

thats a bummer. I never really cared for mobile games

# 20 Mbalmer @ 07/14/14 03:30 PM
Anyway a modder/hacker could turn this into a pc game if it does get released for mobile devices?
