Anyone care to drop an opinion on whether the R9 280x is really worth the jump over the R9 280 ?
I see a bit faster main clock, good deal faster memory clock speed and more about 200 more stream processors. I guess what jumps out most is it's number crunching seems to be a nice upgrade over the 280.
Hey guys, I know I can run the game(not at max) but I want to know if I'll be bottlenecked with the processor I have if I buy a new gpu or will I have to buy a new mobo/processor as well to run the game at max settings.
Specs:
Motherboard: ASUS Micro ATX Motherboard M4A88T-M/USB3
Processor: Phenom II x4 965 BE 3.4Ghz
Ram: 4GB Kingston HyperX Blu 1333MHz DDR3(planning to buy another stick)
GPU: Radeon HD 6850 1GB GDDR5
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Also, I'd like some suggestions for gpu's to buy if I won't be bottlenecked.

If I were you Lak24 I would wait until after the game is released before I did any upgrading, you have a pretty good pc and I would see how the game ran pre&post driver upgrades, mod community improvements and official patches before spending a few hundred on components.

Thanks for the headsup. I was going to probably end up doing that anyway since I'm not even sure how long it'll be before we can start modding the game. Only thing I know I will need soon though is a new gpu because most games are now getting too intense for my 6850. Can barely get playable frame rates on anything medium or higher with some lol.
Stupid? Every Game is better on PC and you can always!
Bulls.hit! Every 400$ PC has more Power than a XBoner or PS4.
Then connect your PC to your "huge big screen"...
False, if there is one area where PC is always behind consoles is sports games. Pc got last gen fifa, last gen 2k, it's getting last gen Pro evolution Soccer 15 this year. Also no madden, no nhl, no mlb the show, no EA UFC, no fight night series... and I could go on and on
Your 2nd point is false again. There is no $400 pc that comes EVEN CLOSE to a ps4 performance.

huh? FIFA 15 PC is getting the full version this year. If I recall you even said that 2k wasn't even going next gen PC. lol look where we're at now.
I would hold off on that comment about EA and there sports lineup not coming to the PC. Madden was on the PC in the past and it's only a matter of time that it will make it's return.

Guess you didn't know MVP 2005 is still played by thousands on PC...
Trying to match the consoles for price when it comes to a PC build is simply doing it wrong.
Look, without getting all "PC elitist", the fact of the matter is if you're not a working adult who has the expendable income to fuel a hobby, then PC gaming might not be for you. It's just a hobby like any other, and hobbies can cost a bit to maintain. You don't try and gear up on mountain biking kit and hit the tracks on a push bike budget.
Having said all that though, when comparing the whole expenses over a typical console/PC build lifetime, it's probably not as significant difference as many think.
Windows is.... free? I'm not sure piracy is a valid answer - you may as well just say "rob a PC store, build = $0".
Plus what about the LCD, mouse, keyboard? gamepad as well, especially for NBA. Agreed on optical though - haven't needed one for at least 5 years myself.
4GB of RAM is probably okay, but the consoles have 8GB. Remember, the challenge is "way better than a PS4".
If you roll with this build, you'll probably be disappointed, IMO. Save up and get a real gaming CPU (i5 something or rather) and possibly a better GPU as well (270X level is probably okay for the mean time though).
Here are my specs. I updated the PSU from 300W to 500W. I've also swapped out my GPU from the 512MB to a nvidia GeForce 9800 1GB. I'm going to upgrade my GPU, I'm thinking of purchasing this one off of newegg.
