3 games under my belt and here are my impressions:

Pros:

Animations
Fielding
Running
Precision input for pitching
Transitions between (most) animations
Getting MUCH more realistic pitch counts
Commentary is a subtle change but makes a world of difference thank you
Sounds of the Show is something I didn't realize I'd missed
I like the new fisheye camera... on defense. Don't understand how anyone could hit with that thing but it's fantastic when pitching
Looks fantastic
Lots of players look a lot better, including generated ones
Did I mention fielding? Seriously though movements look a LOT more natural out there on the field

Cons:

I found hitting to be worse, and wherever that precision input engine is it needs to come out of hiding when hitting. Luckily, the pure analog seems to reward precise inputs, so I'm sticking with that for now.

I can't see players energy level when making my lineup before the game. I mean, it is there, but it's so small and hard to read I need to walk up to my tv, and my vision is excellent.

Not a fan of the new radial graphs. It favours quick info over accuracy.

The captain's missions only apply to diamond dynasty, making yet another feature that could have included franchisers but now I will most likely ignore.

I've put in a good 8 hrs already and haven't seen a single instance of framerate slowdown.

My initial impressions-

Pros-
1. Gameplay seems good as always
2. Graphics are good, lighting is noticeably improved. Rain effects are cool. This isn't one of the best looking games on ps4 and doesn't hold a candle to NBA 2k16 or anything, but the graphics are a step up from last year
3. I'm not noticing frame rate issues w/ my digital dload as of yet.
4. I like the NBA 2k16 and old school madden esque cards and bonuses.

Cons-
1. Replacement of circle for line interfaces.
2. Check swings sensitivity seems off. You have to barely (and I mean) tap the x button to check, otherwise it's a full swing or at best a 3/4 check swing.
3. They got rid of classic baserunning. Default seems clunky.
4. The lack of interface for opposing batters and pitchers is super annoying. I shouldn't have to go to a pause menu to see who is batting, let alone if they are good and their strengths/weaknesses. Many times after the initial intro I am asking myself "wait, whose at bat again?" I find myself facing every batter the same way versus "OK this is a number 4, or this is their worst hitter".
5. Orioles roster is missing Hyun Soo Kim and Joey Rickard

What camera do you use when the ball is in play, both when you're on offense and defense?

# 65 Stephen71wm @ 03/29/16 06:13 PM
They had all year to improve on past mistakes and add to what they have in place. Why take anything away? For example, the catcher 2 cam. Add some more classic stadiums and uniforms. How about a customizable tournament or season? Perfect for use with user created seasons of the past. If this is going to be the only game on the market, they need to step up and give the fans what they really want.

Dynamic for both.

You can tap both left or right on the dpad to bring up who's next at bat and strengths/weaknesses of current batter.

Couple thoughts following the install demo [while it imports my 200 plus SOTS tracks} :

- it looks like they got rid of the button prompt to bring up the previous pitch info on the bottom left. Now its either on or off. I dont like that. I dislike clutter. i liked being able to push r3 or whatever it used to be on ps3

- noticed some stuttered framerate while pitching. Noticed it watching the pulse pitching circle.

-sometimes the game has issues with the usb stick for sounds of the show. sometimes it said cant recognize it. sometimes it does. Thats while its still in the slot.

+ i like the smaller fonts and icon designs in game. classy.

not much to say other than that as i want to give my visual and gameplay thoughts during broadcast style presentation with all my settings.

I switched both to that option and I'm currently trying them out in a night game at Busch. The stutter isn't too bad. I'm just going to keep trying out a bunch of different parks to see if it's as bad as it was at Wrigley.

I've been very vocal already about the frame rate issues. But besides that....

The new hitting and pitching animations look very very fluid, as do the defensive animations. Animations got a big upgrade.

I also love the new equipment they added in, makes the game that much more immersive.

Last thing for this post... I love the way hitting feels so far. I've been using the PCI and I think it really got overhauled this year. The vast majority of the time I make contact, the ball goes where I expect it to go.

Some quick observations (Not a lot of time with the game yet):

Pros:

- The game looks and plays great so far. I have had a couple of frame rate hiccups in specific spots (after check swings and transitioning between camera cuts chiefly), but nothing that has detracted from my experience.

- The improved presentation is noticeable and has breathed new life into individual games.

- Fielding seems more responsive in terms of dives/jumps. I actually feel like I can field the corners with good players now

- Contact off the bat sounds and feels particularly solid this year. Seems to be better weight or friction on grounders and hops as well.

Cons:

(I've spent more time digging into rosters and franchise to check some things out, so that's where my focus is here)

-Can't seem to see a players uniform number unless you go to edit him. IMO, that's a fairly significant interface oversight unless I'm missing it somewhere.

-It appears the option to switch between instant and delayed trades is gone. No delayed trades mean that the ability to essentially play "commissioner" for trades is gone.

-Team stats are only available via the league rankings now. You can't just view your team's totals on the player stat screen anymore.

None of those are particularly major (though the first two are real bummers for me personally), but they do detract a bit from the improvements made. Not sure if such things can be patched or not (hopefully so), but they should definitely be addressed when possible.

EDIT: Oh, and I only got silver rewards when starting up, not gold, which is supposedly what we're supposed to get as returning players. Not a huge deal as I don't spend much time with that stuff, but I figured I'd mention it as it happened last year also and appears to have happened to others as well.

my carry over franchise(1styr) does nit have any umpire introductions or any talk of whos working behind the plate. 12 games in.

One thing I dislike is that they brought back something they did in'09..that is after the first AB, you don't see the avg, hr and Rbi under what the player has done in the game

Wonder if PBR is the cause of the framerate issues?

Graphical improvements don't usually come without performance loss.

Started a Rays franchise right out of the box and I've decided to be like the pros and flesh out the game and all its nuisances in spring training.

- Fish Eye is hard to learn but also visually stunning. Found myself early on in the first 2 games swinging at pitches up in the zone only to realize they were balls. Also pitches down low were a bit hard to pick up on if they were strikes or not at first. I've gotten better though and after launching a homer with Steve Pearce I really felt like I was getting better

- Directional hitting is good! No problems. I've had guys be right on pitches and crush them (Steve Pearce homer was a mistaken slider from the O's pen right down the middle). Also had Kiermaier launch a double off the wall because he had great timing and the PCI showed the pitch in it's range even though it was on the outside part of the plate.

-Showtime is not a sure thing and that makes me happy. Tested it out with Hank Conger and all he did was swing and miss on a changeup. Next game though he did take the pitch and lace a single to right with Showtime so even though it was only 2 uses I like it so far (tried to use a semi-average hitting guy to test if it was overpowered or not. Not at all)

- Commentary is eh. I like it, Sounds more engrossing and they are using names a lot more but already i've heard the same 2 lines, from EK on the pitcher run down, over and over and I've only been through 2 games and maybe 13 pitchers between the Rays/Nats/O's. It's the "He's got 4 pitches" and the "He's got 5 pitches". I do like that there is a lot more involvement it seems from guys not named Matty V and that makes me happy

-Weather! Love the fact that now in franchise the weather is randomized. I've had rain on the opening day of ST and then partly cloudy 2 days in a row. Big fan of the weather changing now rather than being sunny for all 162 games like last year.

-Fish eye cam....again. Idk how to explain it but it just has this wow factor for me. It really takes in the whole stadium and just looks great. This is my default for the rest of the year as I get better at using it

.
Thanks for mentioning this. How exactly do you turn this off? I dislike it taking up the bottom corner of the screen and I don't really happen to be using this at all.

I was unaware it could be turned off.

Any chance a patch is added so pitchers can see what they have thrown in that particular at bat. It was in 15 and I can't seem to bring it up now. At least not online
