MLB The Show 16 News Post

In most sports videogames, I spend the majority of my time each year playing the human vs. human modes. Since NHL 09 introduced me to Online Team Play, my motto has been, "The less AI on the field, the more fun I'll likely have." But a combination of server errors, latency, and "challenge failed" messages has kept me from playing much Head-to-Head or Battle Royale in MLB The Show 16's first week.

Instead, I can't recall another sports videogame where I've enjoyed battling the computer as much as I have during the opening days of MLB The Show 16's new Conquest mode. It isn't because The Show's AI is especially bright –- it still struggles to keep speedy bunt/steal specialists like Craig "Do not go" Gentry from getting to third base.

And whenever that type of player is on the CPU's team (I'm thinking of you, Kansas City Royals), the AI isn't nearly as aggressive as it should be with their own bunt and steal attempts. Conquest mode's appeal comes from giving these computer matches a meaning and purpose beyond simply being another number that gets added to your franchise's win total.

So much this. The fact that I can recreate my Lancaster JetHawks logos and unis down to the "T" and have the full team name announced in-game adds so much flair to DD. It actually makes me want to build up a dream squad, which is precisely the point I believe.

And I am totally hooked on Conquest Mode. I'm currently struggling as I can't win reliably on anything higher than Vet, but I'll get there.

I'm also hooked on conquest mode. For those of us who wanted the experience of building a DD team but didn't necessarily want to play online it gives the gameplay more purpose than extra innings ever did. Those games always felt like exhibitions.

I will completely echo the feelings of Mr. Young and the posters above me. Conquest mode is truly great and just downright fun. Being a relative novice to baseball games and baseball in general, being able to play the computer while still using my team I'm building is a blast.

It truly feels rewarding with the stat tracking, counting towards milestones/missions, my record, etc. I also love that this "offline" mode has rewards that you get just for playing the game, you can earn some of the best cards without feeling the need to buy stubs or packs to get them.

Really hoping they keep up with this in years to come and I'm REALLY wishing it translates to other possible sports games...looking at you 2K.

It's really difficult to enjoy these game modes when it takes a good minute to load anything. It's usually way worse from 3pm to midnight here on the west coast. It's not my internet because I can stream everything else fine.

Can you play Battle Royale vs the CPU as well or is that only vs another human?

Gonna have to give this a try, I normally completely avoid the "card collecting" modes in sports video games, but Conquest seems like fun, thanks for the write-up!

It's really fun until I win a game and then get a server error and instead of gaining fans I get credited with an automatic loss and lose fans....... Really the only thing I dislike about this mode being online. I hope.it doesn't keep me from enjoying it in the long run

lets hope they keep and improve this mode next year and its not a one hit wonder. I love the game of Risk and Axis and Allies so this is amazing to me personally.....plus the 3 inning games are so intense its awesome! I have a choke hold on the Jays for the 100% conquer right now but am waiting for The Show to get its life together before i finish then i think im gonna only use players that are the Captains guidelines.

Really wish I had never seen this thread. The concept looked awesome so I opened up Diamond Dynasty for the first time last night excited to have something other than RTTS to play while waiting on rosters and the first patch. After about an hour and a half of waiting on loading screens and getting kicked for server errors I finally got to start a game. The concept is awesome and was a blast to plan and play but trying to play it with the online issues is like trying to ice skate uphill. Hope they get that straightened out because I could see putting some serious time into this mode.

The server lag is bad but it will definitely get better. This mode is worth checking out for sure, so much so much so much fun.

I played Conquest a good bit two nights ago and enjoyed it a lot, but the server issues are so bad now that it takes forever to get the DD menu to even load (the game itself took forever to load because it was trying to pull my daily login award from the server). I look forward to Sony adding more server capacity and reliability to support the online features of this game.

I've been addicted to Conquest. First time in franchise history I've stuck with anything besides RTTS.

Meet the Tijuana Slumlords!

I need to try this. Always wanted to get into the team building and DD type thing, but i'm not a huge online player for the baseball. This looks good.
