SCEA Bans Many Players for Using Exploits in MLB The Show 16

If you've been on Twitter lately, you've no doubt been seeing Ramone Russell answer fans inquiries about why they were banned over the past couple of days.

Over the weekend, Ramone also posted in the SCEA Forums reiterating that breaking the rules and standards of the community could result in a console and PSN ID being banned.

	"If a player is found cheating, exploiting, harassing other players, or breaking the rules in game or here on The Show Nation forums, we will suspend the account for a limited time or even permanently ban the ID and console. This isn't new and we've always been on the lookout for these types of players, but it's important to remind the community of the potential consequences that may await players if they decide to travel down the dark path."

Flipping cards on the market is not an offense. Buying and quick selling is not an offense. It had more process than just cancelling an order.

A number of players were banned in the past few days according to Ramone's Twitter Feed:

"We banned a number of users who exploited community market transactions. Bans will not be reversed, fyi flipping cards IS NOT an exploit.

Flipping cards doesn't get you banned, we encourage flipped cards, flipping cards is good for everyone."

Several users were quick to claim innocence but it appears Russell came armed with info, telling at least one user they were in the top 1% of offenders of the glitch. In fact, the SCEA investigation into the matter was three weeks long and involved multiple runs and checks of the same data.

This was a bold move by SCEA to protect the online gaming experience for many MLB The Show users. While bans are nothing new in the online gaming world, it does appear SCEA has taken some pretty dramatic steps in order to safeguard the online experience for gamers. While some of the bans are permanent, others are temporary and will last anywhere from days to weeks to months.

What do you think of the bans? Was SCEA right? Is this a good move?

I applaud them. Exploiting the game to gain stubs illegally is stealing. Plain and simple. People pay real money to get stubs as well as flip cards and use the market properly. Here you have a group of players who found a way to exploit the market system to get free stubs.

Theft. Plain and simple.

Good for SCEA for weeding out those that were blatant offenders. Good riddance.

People found a loophole in the shownation website that was tricking the buy/sell order system into giving them free stubs.

Sony San Diego closed that loophole a while ago. But they just now completed their investigation of everyone who chose to exploit that trick and have finally handed out bans/suspensions to the most egregious offenders.

Didn't realize that was possible. If that's the case, those people should be prosecuted since that is a form of fraud.

Exactly. They're ruining a fun experience. That's the why I'm not playing much online ( any games). If people are cheating for stubs in a video game, imagine what they can do in real life.

It's fun to follow them on Twitter claiming they've done nothing. Logs can't lie.

Good job SCEA, if they stick in that direction they may count one more online player in the future.

This is great news! Stuff like this is 1 of the reasons I not only stopped playing online games any longer but I didn't renew my ps + membership. It's just not worth the aggravation any more

Well deserved bans IMO. If people would stop trying to circumvent the system and actually get stubs the legit way, then we wouldn't have a problem, would we. Those that deliberately did this should be perma banned. Those that somehow did it by mistake, should get a temp ban but should be allowed to play again.

People try to cheat but when they get caught start screaming about lawsuits. LMAO. Really?

In my eyes the greed of companies to charge you for a game and then charge you for "cards" and all th micro transaction things is the issue here.... Greed feeds greed.

I have never and will never get involved with investing real money in cards that mean nothing when you can be playing a franchise mode.

The FIFA scandal to do with a similar mode shows that companies are just as bad as these users.

Unfortunately too many people make money and can make money from modes like this so they will always exist.

I don't want to start anything, but I just wanted to say that I messaged Hustlin and I didn't intend for those to be hateful.

Hustlin', I always liked you. I still do even though you made me a little mad with how rude and dismissive you were being.

I didn't cheat the system and I never once knowingly did anything that awarded me free XP or stubs.

So, I apologize for the comments I messaged you. You seem like a good dude and I've always appreciated your helpful input on this forum.

Edit: Also, if you are getting hate messages, that sucks and I want to let you know that I had nothing to do with that. I haven't talked to anyone else about this except for two other people here and they're both very mature and very respected members.

It's another revenue stream. I have no problems with them doing it in this fashion. Making money is their goal. I simply don't partake in these game modes. They don't interest me.

While some might have and likely did, I didn't. So, I doubt I'm the only one that applies to.

I find it difficult to buy that people who did something egregious enough to get banned had no idea why they were doing was wrong. Maybe it's just me.

Alot of you guys in here are blindly defending SDS decision on this without knowing the facts. I am all for banning cheaters but there is no way thousands knew about this and kept it a secret. Also 1500 or so were banned and thats only 1 pct so you are telling me 150k knew about the exploit and kept it a secret and/or decided to not further exploit it?

I have had tons of friends who got banned and they have done nothing but help the community to find bugs n glitches earlier this year. I know for a fact they did nothing.

To those that did willingly exploit it then they deserve it. But I know alot got wrongfully banned and I hope SDS is willing to admit if they are wrong.
