Another way in which Sony San Diego will set itself apart is by delivering additional cutscenes, scenarios and dialogue after the launch of MLB 17. Russell said the studio is still working on the details, such as how much new content it will release and when it will deliver those updates, but said ďitís definitely on our roadmap.Ē Although Russell didnít give any hints as to the nature of this post-launch content, you could conceive of a situation in which, a few seasons into your MLB career, youíre given the option to take a pay cut or be released from your team.

I wish CPU minor league players would get to handle their position changes the same way.

So much good news today! I'm especially interested in how they've implemented the new RTTS Pave Your Path stuff for when you're further into your career in the majors and looking forward to this mode growing more in the next few years because I'm loving this new foundation! Can't wait to see these new cutscenes, etc.

Definitely gonna have to try out Road To The Show this year. I normally start one up every year but I never really get very far into it before I stop playing it. Changes sound awesome, can't wait to try it out. Hopefully this year it will keep me playing often beyond OSFM's release.

Also that "pay cut or get released" situation sounds cool if it turns out to be true. But it really would only matter if they made salary mean something in the mode.

I don't think that will be an option if it means cutting current salary. MLB players are not allowed to reduce or restructure their salary per MLBPA.

That is why A-ROD didn't get traded to Boston. They wanted to change some perks which would lower his AAV.

Ah ok. Thanks for the clarification.

So they don't want us to play it until it's been released a few months?

I don't understand why someone would play it as launch and miss out on extra content that they would be adding later.

This potentially has HUGE implications for possibilities maybe still a few years down the road.
If cutscenes can be added post-launc, then I can see a day where new commentary updates is added post-launch also.

Extra content could be tied to situations that you may not have even experienced during your play through. Also could be stuff that you won't see until you're well into your career.

That's what I'm hoping.

I don't know if you play 2K basketball but this year some cutscenes weren't playing in your career mode (not because they were timed, just a glitch) and I didn't progress in my career until they were working.

I'm afraid this will be like that but on purpose.

Instead of earning stubs perhaps you could use your salary to buy stubs and exchange those for equipment and perks within RTTS. You get a higher salary based on play and paid a certain time each month. This adds an extra step but makes salary relevant.

Cynics on YouTube are already decrying this idea, saying it means we're getting an incomplete game at launch, and citing the chocolate rations thing from 1984.

These people have no sense of joy or wonder. None.

I will admit that as a long time RTTS player, going back to 2006 or 2007, that I am not completely sold on the mode yet.

I amd still really concerned about the potential for the manager to ask you to swap positions. We have seen that in almost every preview and video. As long as, if I say no, I am not penalized to harshly or even at all then I am good.

I am not too concerned about that happening with my established players as they are a 99 CF and a Rookie of the Year starting pitcher. But If I choose a to try a new player this year I will most likely start a SS or 3B. In the past I have spent significant time in RTTS as a 1B, 2B and CF so I really don't want to get shifted to those positions again.

These people are just looking at it wrong. What the idea is saying is "the game may be shipped, but we are still working our butts off to keep it fresh, for as long as possible".
San Diego could just mail it in and say ''we're done with this thing, it is what it is''. They could just give us the bare minimum roster updates, but SDS is striving for more than ''bare minimum''.
I wish there were a way for those cynics to opt out of extra work SDS is putting forth and leave it to those who are capable of appreciating it.
