Madden NFL 18 News Post


There have been a few community members that are prominent in the Madden Ultimate Team world asking their Twitter followers for constructive feedback on what they would like to see changed gameplay wise in Madden NFL 18. I'm here asking the same thing, but to the OS crowd.

Two rules - keep it constructive (and in a positive nature) and respect other's feedback (even if they differ from your own).

Other than that no opinion or idea is too big or too small.

Add the ability to play OL and specialist positions in franchise mode. Also, add ESPN for Monday night games and busted plays in bad weather (fumbled snaps, etc)

Please Fix the formation Subbing/Fatigue problems. Either Duplicate player is invisible, LB subbed in for WR or TE subbed in for MLB due to fatigue the formation sub...please make it so it just takes the next person in that position with the highest energy to sub. In short I reset all formation subs because it just killed the immersion.

Other than that I really enjoyed this years version.

- Players standing up straight instead of knees bent all the time

- Better QB drop back and throw animation

Am I the only one who wants an option to kneel the ball and end the game? Have some graphics, end the game. This happens in real life, why is it never an option in Madden?

Line play interaction. No more win/loss decisions at the snap of the ball for linemen. Bring back steering offensive linemen. A reach tackle trigger or button so you have chance to slow down a runner even while being blocked. More "jockeying" animations for DB/WR when the ball is in the air. Real LB positions(Sam Mike Will)

Option to choose weather and game time for every game in franchise mode. Sick of having no control over every single game being rainy. FIFA did this and its available offline. Not tough to put it in there.

Another thing I'd like to see that goes to the QB differentiation is to see THP become a more meaningful attribute. As it stands if you showed me 2 QB's side-by-side, one with 99 vs. one with 80 THP, I doubt I'd be able to identify which was which. I actually did a test with this back in Madden 16 (I think, might have been 15) where for a lot of the throws, the difference was completely negligible. I want to see a big difference between a guys like Flacco and guys like Alex Smith where the weaker arms have passes that tend to float rather than be darts.

Also, make QB throws while getting hit more consistent and realistic. If he's going to get hit, either make it a sack or have him throw downfield with a hit in accuracy. Try to eliminate these plays where the QB either: just drops the ball for a fumble, just gets rid of the pass and has it fall "incomplete" a foot in front of him, or, in this case, clearly throws it forward and is ruled a fumble.

I would like to see the physics engine cleaned up & continue to evolve. I no longer want to see players body parts & limbs fusing together when getting up from a pile up. I no longer want to see players walking right through players bodies when breaking the huddle, getting up from tackles, etc...Stuff like this kills immersion & sucks the enjoyment out of the game for me. This stuff was cleaned up for the most part in Madden 16 but took a step backwards in 17 which was hugely disappointing.

The physics look great during certain tackle animations, but the need to be consistent & play out all the time, even before & after the play is blown dead. I'm really hoping that EA is aware that their physics engine is not where it needs to be & is a primary focus. No other addition matters to me if this stuff isn't addressed.

Weight & momentum need to play more of a factor when dictating outcomes.

We need more tackle animations

We need True Step for all 22 players on the field. They made a big deal out of True Step in Madden 25 but haven't heard much since....This would fix a lot of issues (warping, sliding, etc..)

I want to see ball carriers PUSH OFF when running up a blockers back. This should happen contextually. They actually have a push off animation in the game but it never triggers at the right time. This is long overdue!

RB's need their own signature animation packages. I'm so tired of seeing all RB's being able to pull off the same moves. This would keep the game from feeling repetitive & add a much needed level of realism.

We need BODY CATCHES in the game. Not all catches are made clean with hands. Possession receivers & big TE's pull catches in with their body all the time. I've been asking for this for years! This is a huge part of football & needs to be in the game.

Oh & it would be nice if they could stop the ball & players from clipping/ghosting through stadium walls too.

A smoother more realistic dropback animation for the QB.
QB animations are the reason why I still play All Pro Football 2k every year after done with my "Madden cycle."
I just love how they throw the ball and the realisitic way it all flows.

I don't know how, but improve the environment and overall feel of the game. I love NBA 2k because of the way the commentary and gameplay come together.

The Little things:
Being able to keep up with trades. Previous games and outcomes. Banner raising. MVP trophy hoisting. All-Star stuff.
It makes me want to play the game even if I'm not that big a fan of the NBA.

I love NFL and if it had more of that, it would instantly become the best game ever.

Yes! I loved carving people up with Marino's quick delivery. A more all pro 2kesque passing game and that "true step" tech for all 22 players on the field, not just ball carriers, would open the game up something serious.

3. Real counters to everything like nickel blitz 2.

I gave three specifics to the changes I want in gameplay.

I'll add

4. Much better deep zone play from safeties.

5. Improved 4 man pass rush for elite pass rushers.

6. Different running styles of players and actually variation of player on field styles.

7. Much better QB play including running QB's taking off more and less of the QB's just throwing it away when under pressure.

8. CB's must be able to actually bump and force receivers toward coverage correctly.

9. Fix special teams kick off and punt return blocking.

10. More variation of QB's inaccuracies. More throws behind or under thrown.

11. The ability to throw the ball on the ground when a screen is blown up.

12. Weather should have more affect on gameplay.

13. Young players getting rattled like NCAA football used to do

14. WR splints need to be accurate according to real plays. This will help offense to force defense out of base defense.

I'll stop there. These are my top gameplay changes I would like to see

Base pass rush and vastly improved deep zone play, both are desperately needed. Great list, charter, and I would love to see more of your ideas.

Bring it back to PC. I did not buy 17 won't buy 18 unless it is back on PC. I know that is unlikely for 18 because it is the first year on Frostbite by my hope is 19 will be back.

1. Better line play/pass rush- Right now line play is just not that good and it is just about impossible to get a good pass rush. Its like either have blocking low and then you get to the QB to often or have the slider for blocking high and never get to the QB. Block just doesn't look that realistic either. If line play interaction could be improved like WR/DB interactions where in Madden 16 that would make the game so much better.


2. CPU QB smarts- Basically the QB needs to now when they should try to run the ball or sit in the pocket. Right now there is basically no scrambling QB play.


3. Clock management- My issue is that basically the only time CPU will go to no huddle is if they are down with less then 2 minutes. If CPU has the ball down like 10-14 points with only like 5 minutes instead of going to no huddle and trying to score and trying to then lead time so they could maybe get the ball back and try to score again instead they will not and will play like it is just the first quarter.


If these 3 things could be fixed the gameplay would be just about perfect.

Add a Community Madden Share draft classes and be able to import it in a franchise and scout real upcoming players, Like how they had for Madden 12.

Bring in vannwolfhawk to create the default playbook for every single team.

If the devs don't do this, it leads me to believe that they really don't care about the authenticity of this game.

It's not just the playbooks that can use an overhaul, it's the gameplan (star) "system"...

Often times the CPU has an acceptable variety of plays available to them, they just don't get called or don't get called in the proper situation, etc...
