Round 1 Recap and a look ahead to Round 2

Covering the Florida Panthers in GM Connected league ALHL2

Round 1 was a generally uninteresting round, with the only upset coming in the form of a 5 beating a 4 out West. That 4 however was the defending champion Vancouver Canucks, so that is a big deal. Other than that, all top seeds advanced.

East

1) New York Rangers def. 8) New York Islanders

-- The Isles put up a decent fight. They stole a game, but other than that the series was all Rangers.

2) Carolina Hurricanes def. 7) Philadelphia Flyers

-- The Canes swept the Flyers in four games. Lets be honest, Philly stinks. But the Canes are the real deal. They will be a tough out for anyone

3) Montreal Candiens def. 6) Tampa Bay Lightning

-- On paper the Habs are the higher seed, but the Bolts actually had more points. We're kinda shocked they lost in six to Montreal.

4) Florida Panthers def. 5) Washington Capitals

-- Duh. We already covered this here

West

1) Calgary Flames def. 8) Nashville Predators

-- The Preds have no business being in the playoffs. Calgary is one of the best teams out West so they won easily

2) St. Louis Blues def 7) Detroit Red Wings

-- The Wings mailed at in and got swept. We really like this Blues team. Look out for them in the West.

3) San Jose Sharks def. 6) Columbus Blue Jackets

-- We don't know how good this Sharks team is. They did sweep the Jackets, but we fill find out more about them in Round 2.

4) Vancouver Canucks def. 5) Minnesota Wild

-- The Wild pull off the upset over the defending champs. This could have gone either way, as it went to Game 7. We kinda wanted a Finals rematch but it won't be happening now.

On to Round 2:

1) New York Rangers vs 4) Florida Panthers

-- Covered here

2) Carolina Hurricanes vs 3) Montreal Canadiens

-- Don't be fooled by the seeds. The Canes are perhaps the best team in the whole league. Montreal had a nice season, winning the division and a playoff series, but we think this one will be all Canes.

CAR wins 4-1

1) Calgary Flames vs 5) Minnesota Wild

-- The Wild proved they have no quit and are very dangerous. The Flames established themselves as the top team out west however. This one will be close, but we see Calgary pulling it out eventually.

CGY wins 4-2

2) St. Louis Blues vs 3) San Jose Sharks

-- Another close matchup. Maybe it's because the Panthers got beat up in St. Louis, but we think this Blues team is sneaky good. They should win, but San Jose will make it a fight

STL wins 4-3
