Sixers axe Hinkie, tab Griffin as new GM
Philadelphia - Sixers owner Terrence Gambin did it all in one fell swoop. In a surprise move Gambin fired General Manager & President of Basketball Operation Sam Hinkie and hired Orlando Magic Director of Media Relations Tyler Griffin for both roles. The 25 year old Griffin inherits a rebuilding team coming off an historically bad season with a roster full of young players. Hinkie leaves on a sour note as the firing came as a complete shock to him. "We followed the plan that we crafted with the expectation that we would struggle mightily. I guess Mr. Gambin became impatient. I wish the new guy all the luck in the world." Hinkie offered no further comments as he left the teams practice facility. Gambin could not be reached, but the Sixers have scheduled an introductory press conference for Wednesday at 10:00 am.
