With less than a week till the kickoff of the football season for Florida Atlantic, the surprise story seems to be the offense. New offensive coordinator Brian Wright brings a new high powered, high scoring offensive style to a team that was lacking last season, ranking 100 or worse in nearly all major offensive categories.

This offensive style you've known about since Coach Wright's arrival on campus. What you haven't known though, is how well the players would adapt to this offense. So far, the results have been nothing short of pleasing, at least in the eyes of the coaches.

Offseason awards arent something that are typical under this new coaching regime, but according to Coach Wright, "If we did do that, we would have co MVP's at RB and WR."

He is referring to Xavier Stinson, Sr RB and WR transfer Duron Carter. Stinson has burst onto the seen out of nowhere. He was expected to push for the starting spot, but no one expected the play that they have seen out of him at camp. His bruising running style will provide the perfect one two punch/thunder and lightning combo with JR scat back Martese Jackson.

The other co-MVP (my true MVP) Duron Carter, has really shown up this off season. "It was a slow, rough start for Duron, but after a couple of run ins and long talks with myself and Coach Pelini, Duron has really grown up and shown some amazing things in practice. When he does what everyone knows he is capable of, its a highlight reel waiting to happen. Now we just have to keep getting him to believe" stated Coach Wright.

Its always nice to hear these reports a week out from the first game, but until the players step on that field for the first game, its just that, a feel good story.

Its looking like another sunny day in Boca Ratone, Florida. And similarly, the football gods seem to be shining their blessing on the FAU Owls. With the presence of new Head Coach Carl Pelini, as well as new offensive Co-ordinator Brian Wright, the Owls seem destined to take that next step towards National Prominence.

So what is the first thing to iron out for the new Offensive Coordinator? Its the QB battle. Who will be the next leader of the huddle for the Owls? Will it be the Senior veteran Graham Wilbert to lead the huddle or will highly touted JUCO transfer Melvin German III bring in the start to a new era?

According to Brian Wright, the word handed down from Coach Pelini is that German and Wilbert will continue to split snaps during the teams first two games, against FCS Wagner on Aug. 31 and at Sun Belt opponent Middle Tennessee on Sept. 9, with the full time starter to be named before the 3rd game against Georgia.

While these 2 QB's seem to be the front-runners, dont discount RS Soph Stephen Curtis who has continued to impress coaches throughout spring and summer workouts.

Another transfer who comes with a lot of promise and at the same time a sketchy past, Duron Carter, son of NFL great Chris Carter. Carter, who started his career at Ohio St, then transferred to Coffeyville CC, before transferring to Alabama, where he never saw the field due to maturity and academic issues. This seems to be the last chance for Carter. He has 2 choices, grow up and become the great player everyone knows he can be or fall off into what could have been.

With only a couple short weeks until the first game, we will begin to see more and more unfold on what many believe could be a defining season for FAU.
