Eagles the NFL's Miami Heat???
Posted on July 31, 2011 at 04:32 PM.
Vince Young has called them a "dream team"........

ESPN's Sal Pal says the feeling around the league is "something special is happening in Philly"..........

And Cullen Jenkins says they "are the NFL's Miami Heat."

I'd be careful comparing my team to the Miami Heat. Because so far, at least after year one, that thing has been a failure based on the "championship or bust" expectations.

I'm sure neither of Miami's big three envisioned a season that would end not only without the title, but with them being the subject of jokes at an ESPY Award show that brought them zero awards. In fact, they weren't even present at the show.

Since the Eagles have had such a huge week there are many predicting them to win it all. But I always say...."the popular prediction normally doesn't come true."

Remember these "popular" predictions?
  • The Miami Heat were gonna win it all.....no one picked the Mavs.
  • Last year my Cowboys were gonna be the first team to play the Super Bowl at home......halfway through we were 1-7.
  • How many people had LeBron going to New York?
  • It was gonna be Phillies-Yankees in the World Series again....who had the Rangers and Giants?
  • Have the Bruins winning the Cup?? Tell that to somebody else.
  • Who had the Packers? They were gonna miss the playoffs remember?
My point....it almost seems like being the big favorite seems to work against you. Things just rarely work out the way a large number of people think they will. Its always something else. Safe bet, if everybody is saying one thing....go against it.

So I'm glad so many people are saying "Philly is loaded, they're going to the Super Bowl." The season hasn't even started, we'll see.

Yeah, I agree. I have been an Eagles fan my whole life and I agree. I really don't like all the hoopla about them. I mean they haven't even played a preseason game, let alone started the season! I hope they do well, but I'm much more comfortable not being the favorite. Also I have been a Mavericks fan my whole life, so I just went through this from the other perspective. I hate myself right now. Ha ha.

I've been a huge Eagles fan [as well as Titans] for years. I'm with Heroiczero13, I do not like all the extra attention, and it usually works against the teams that get it.The only team thats and exception to the article and was a safe bet to win a championship where everyone picked/knew they would go and win it was the Chicgo Bulls Teams of the '90s. Other than them completely agree with the article.

I concur with most of the article, but also disaagree with "being big favourites" seem to work against you; i will explain why: Most sports are 20% physicall, 80% Mental; if you can cut the that Mental percent in half and create doubt in anywhich way in that other player/teams mind, you may have won that batlle, series, or championship.
"The Miami Heat were gonna win it all.....no one picked the Mavs", Well i picked the Mavs, because they are a longtime favourite team of mine, and they need claim what was almost their back in 2006. Somehow, Dirk N. and the Mavs got into the Heats players heads, and million of viewers watches the most gifted player in all of the NBA (Bron Bron) come unravelled.
"Last year my Cowboys were gonna be the first team to play the Super Bowl at home......halfway through we were 1-7", That hasn't been done yet, and probably wont happen for some time, because that is alot of pressure for any NFL club to brunt. the Cowboys lost their focus going 1-2 by the third week of the season. mentally were written off,, and it didn't get better when Romo went down; that finished them off.
It really comes down to coaching and the position that the players are put in to achieve greatness. Some players will seize the moment, and most will faulter; and on the backhand of it, some coaches will miss he oppurtunity to capture that apex of the game and let it slip away.
So let's call the Eagle's, the Miami Heat of the NFL; but with a much proven Coach in Andy Reid cheers

@ruffnready....

So you REALLY picked the Mavs???? I live here in the Dallas area, very few people ACTUALLY thought they could win the NBA Championship. And if you did.......you're still in the minority. Like I said, "popular" predictions. That one was not popular.

@xbreezex....
Thats the legandary Vida Guerrera. Google her dawg. She has a lotta pics out there.

Also....my saying the Cowboys were "gonna" be the first team...blah, blah... I'm saying prediction wise. I never saw that happening in the first place. Because of what you said as well as the fact that everybody was saying it.

Charles Barkley and i were on the same page with the Mavericks; i didn't even care if the won the championship or not, all i cared about is that they give it 100% this time and not pack it in like last time. Plus i came into some cash with my own little NBA pool, for winning with the Mavs; if you are a ride or die fan, you always roll with your team sink or swim. I am such a fan that i named my first child (boy) after their team: MAVERIK. nuff said. I'll even take my love for the Mavs back to the early Michael Finely days, when he was a scoring and dunking machine.

The only similarities between Miami and Philly is lots of good players on one team. Miami's players conspired to all play for the same team, and came together in villianeque fashion. The Philly case is just good management making good moves
