Madden NFL 10: Potential Superstars

This article is part of an ongoing Madden NFL 10 Strategy series provided to Operation Sports by Askmadden.com. Be sure to check them out for more great Madden Strategies!

Hey Madden fans, I'm back again and this time I’m looking at players who are under 24 and with A potential. These guys are destined to be the next superstar players in Madden 10.

Player’s potentials do change through out their career in Madden 10, and also depending on what position they play. You can mess around editing player positions, for example offensive line back-ups turn into great defensive ends or even strong safety’s. Defensive backs that are good in zone coverage can be even better at the safety positions.

This list will be for potential trades, so you can refer to this page when ever you need help and are looking for a certain player.

Remember these are all A graded potential players, the following season their rating will go up dramatically, I recommend downloading Star player and World class training staff to maximize player progression. Player ratings may also change due to roster updates.

Key – OVR = Overall

Quarter Backs

Matt Ryan - 88 OVR, good all round, weak running.
Joe Flacco - 86 OVR, 97 throwing power, weak play action.
Mark Sanchez - 81 OVR, 70 Speed, good all round, weak play action.
Matthew Stafford - 78 OVR, 71 Speed, 97 throwing power, weak on a few attributes.
Chad Henne - 72 OVR, 94 throwing power, weak running, weak play action.
Brady Quinn - 69 OVR, 71 Speed, 84 throwing power, a few weak attributes, ok play action.

My Top Picks - I would try for Mark Sanchez.
My pick is: Mark Sanchez.

Half Backs

Focusing on what type of Running Back they are, and if they can catch.

Adrian Peterson - 99 OVR, All round running back, bad hands.
Maurice Jones- Drew - 93 OVR, All round running back, good hands.
Chris Johnson - 90 OVR, Speed back, ok trucking, good hands.
Matt Forte - 90 OVR, All round running back, good speed and trucking, good hands.
Marshawn Lynch - 87 OVR, Power back with good speed, bad hands.
Steve Slaton - 84 OVR, Speed back, poor trucking, average hands.
Jonathan Stewart - 84 OVR, Power back with good speed, average hands.
Knowshon Moreno - 83 OVR, Speed back, can truck, average hands.
Kevin Smith - 82 OVR, All round back, bad hands.
Felix Jones - 80 OVR, Speed back, poor trucking, terrible hands.
Darren Mcfadden - 79 OVR, Speed back, ok trucking, bad hands.
Donald Brown - 79 OVR, Speed back, can truck, average hands.
Beanie Wells - 77 OVR, All round back, terrible hands.
Lesean McCoy - 75 OVR, Speed back, good hands.
Shonn Greene - 73 OVR, Power back, ok speed, terrible hands.

My Top Picks – There are some top players here so it is hard to pick one player out of all these top HB’s. So I will choose the most realistic trade’s possible, Steve Slaton and Jonathan Stewart, your speed and power HB, combination, Jonathan Stewart may be the fastest back but he will bull rush through tackles and to me he’s a total beast!!! I had a play stopped with 5 tacklers on him and he wasn’t taken down. Also Lesean McCoy is a great player with great speed and solid hands, trade for him early.

My pick is: Jonathan Stewart

Full Backs

Le’ron McClain - 92 OVR, Power FB use him to run for short yards, ok hands, poor pass blocker, ok run blocker.
Peyton Hillis - 84 OVR, All round good speed and trucking, ok hands, poor blocker.

My Top Picks – I would go for a blocker in this area and neither of these two do a good job of that, so look at free agents and for 1 season get one of the best FB’s of all time Lorenzo Neal.

My pick is: Lorenzo Neal.

Wide Receivers

Focusing on main attributes, speed or possession receiver.

Calvin Johnson JR - 93 OVR, All round receiver, 95 speed, amazing hands
Desean Jackson - 87 OVR, All round receiver, 98 speed, very good hands.
Dwayne Bowe - 87 OVR, Possession receiver, 86 speed, great hands.
Steve Smith - 86 OVR, Possession receiver, 87 speed, great hands.
Mike Sims-Walker - 83 OVR, All round receiver, 93 speed, good hands.
Sidney Rice - 82 OVR, Possession receiver, 87 speed, very good hands.
Michael Crabtree - 80 OVR, All round receiver, 88 speed, great hands.
Jeremy Maclin - 79 OVR, Speed receiver, 95 speed, good hands.
Percy Harvin - 78 OVR, Speed receiver, 97 speed, average hands.
Kenny Britt - 78 OVR, Possession receiver, 86 speed, average hands.
Hakeem Nicks - 78 OVR, Possession receiver, 87 speed, good hands.
Josh Morgan - 75 OVR, All round receiver, 87 speed, average hands.
Brain Robiskie - 71 OVR, All round receiver, 87 speed, good hands.
Darrius Heyward-Bey - 70 OVR, Speed receiver, 97 speed, average hands.

My Top Picks - Again a few players to choose from, Good luck getting Calvin Johnson JR so lets look at realistic trades, but you will have to give up some top draft picks and the rest, to get these players. Dwayne Bowe has great hands and can truck like a back, Michael Crabtree is a top player already with good speed and solid hands, Desean Jackson is just an all round top receiver, only let down is his catch in traffic, but he is A potential so will get better.

My pick is:
Michael Crabtree.

Tight Ends

Speed, catching and blocking will be the main focus for these guys.

Zach Miller - 87 OVR, 78 speed, very good hands, average blocker.
Greg Olsen - 82 OVR, 85 speed, very good hands, average blocker.
Brandon Pettigrew - 80 OVR, 72 speed, average hands, good blocker.
Dustin Keller - 78 OVR, 86 speed, good hands, average blocker.
Jermichael Finley - 77 OVR, 79 speed, good hands, average blocker.
Jared Cook JR - 75 OVR, 85 speed, very good hands, average blocker.
James Casey - 71 OVR, 74 speed, good hands, average blocker.

My Top Picks – Greg Olsen and Dustin Keller are stand out players for me.

My pick is: Dustin Keller.

Tackles

Key, STR = Strength, AWR = Awareness, IBL = Impact Blocking.

Ryan Clady - 98 OVR, 94 STR, 91 AWR, All round Blocker, 95 IBL.
Joe Thomas - 97 OVR, 91 STR, 89 AWR, more of a Pass Blocker, 95 IBL.
Jake Long - 90 OVR, 95 STR, 78 AWR, more of a Run Blocker, 92 IBL.
Sam Baker - 87 OVR, 91 STR, 79 AWR, Pass Blocker, 79 IBL.
Jeff Otah - 86 OVR, 96 STR, 77 AWR, more of a Run Blocker, 85 IBL.
Ryan Harris - 85 OVR, 88 STR, 82 AWR, more of a Pass Blocker, 80 IBL.
Branden Albert - 84 OVR, 88 STR, 75 AWR, All round Blocker, 85 IBL
Michael Oher - 84 OVR, 97 STR, 60 AWR, Run Blocker, 95 IBL.
Jason Smith - 84 OVR, 88 STR, 65 AWR, more of a Pass Blocker, 84 IBL.
Jared Gaither - 83 OVR, 92 STR, 71 AWR, Pass Blocker, 81 IBL.
Eugene Monroe - 83 OVR, 88 STR, 68 AWR, Pass Blocker, 85 IBL.
Duane Brown - 79 OVR, 88 STR, 67 AWR, Pass Blocker, 80 IBL.
Andre Smith - 79 OVR, 94 STR, 48 AWR, Run Blocker, 88 IBL.
Eben Britton - 79 OVR, 89 STR, 69 AWR, All round Blocker, 79 IBL.

My Top Picks – Brandon Albert is good all round and Michael Oher awareness lets him down; if his awareness was higher he would be in the 90’s, so after a few years or even just the one, these two guys will be at the top of the Tackles list. If you are looking for a pass blocker, then look at Jared Gaither.

My Pick is:
Brandon Albert. Second Pick is Michael Oher.

Guards

Donald Thomas - 87 OVR, 92 STR, 75 AWR, Run Blocker, 89 IBL.
Jeremy Zuttah - 83 OVR, 86 STR, 72 AWR, All round Blocker, 85 IBL.
Mike Pollak - 80 OVR, 88 STR, 65 AWR, more of a Pass Blocker, 82 IBL.
Andy Levitre - 76 OVR, 84 STR, 65 AWR, All round Blocker, 71 IBL.
Eric Wood - 75 OVR, 84 STR, 64 AWR, All round Blocker, 84 IBL.
Jamey Richard - 71 OVR, 86 STR, 65 AWR, All round Blocker, 78 IBL.

My Top Picks - Jeremy Zuttah and Eric Wood. I have a feeling that Eric will be the top Guard in future Madden’s.

My Pick is: Eric Wood. 2nd Pick is Jeremy Zuttah.

Center

Ryan Kalil - 85 OVR, 86 STR, 73 AWR, All round Blocker, 78 IBL.
Alex Mack - 82 OVR, 90 STR, 63 AWR, All round Blocker, 91 IBL.

My Top Picks - Well as you can see not many A potential players but there are some decent B’s, but for me look no further than Alex Mack. He will be up there with Nick Mangold in the future.

My Pick is: Alex Mack.

Next week folks, we'll be back and we're going to discuss the other side of the ball. See who you should keep an eye on when building your defense!

This is great! I want to try to grab a load of these guys next time I start a franchise.

A solid review of young talented players. I disagree that a player needs A potential to be a potential superstar though. Many players start with a low overall but have incredible skill sets. They may only be a B or a C potential but they can easily rack up numbers.

To add some depth to this tip, I would suggest reading this thread for a further overview of progression/potential.http://www.operationsports.com/forum...ogression.html

Nice list, breakdown. I tried to trade for Crabtree, and SF sure didn't want to give him up. lol As a Texas & Cowboys fan, I thought it would be fun to trade for him, and then cut him. Just because I could... only I couldn't. Guess the jokes on me huh?

Felix Jones is a beast, unless you like to pass it to your RBs a lot.

Did this article recommend buying those stupid little upgrade things EA sells? Is that what "Star player and World class training staff" are?

This article cheats.

Okay, I'll bite: exactly which backup offensive linemen become great strong safeties and defensive ends? This seems highly improbable.

How is using something that is part of the game cheating??? Many people will edit and create elite player which is in effect cheating so why cant you max out your players potential!!! You have no idea who will be good and will be flop so there for you cannot judge it and call it cheating.

I don't get credited from OS on my articles either, they edit out where we put our names at the end. Our admin at AskMadden was trying to get that changed but I guess OS is still doing it.

To all, this article is from ROCKnROLLA, he wrote it.

I never understand the point in these articles. Few ratings matter at all in this game, so having a discussion about what are the best players to grab is a waste of time. Not to say it isn't a good read, becuase it is, but this whole thing can be broken down to a few lines:

Get a good QB, fast WRs, fast TEs, fast Running Backs and fast defenders.

Lastly, I can't belive that Vernon Davis wasn't talked about regarding TEs. He is the best one in Madden and this year is really proving he is one of the elite TEs in the real NFL. He is big. He is fast. he is strong. He is also the best run blocking TE in the game. You get him, you throw to him and run behind him. You win games. At least, in Madden.

You forgot to read what the story is actually about:

oh, and Davis is 25. OHHH so old. He was drafted as a Sophmore, so he started in the NFL at a younger age than a lot of other players.

No one is saying Davis isn't a good tight end. The article was about players under 24. Why Lorenzo Neal is included is well beyond me, I didn't catch that.

That definitely isn't the case, we simply post the articles as we receive them after doing some basic grammatical edits. I've contacted Carl at AskMadden to request that he gives authors proper credit in their articles with a byline at the end going forward so you guys can see your name in the limelight

Well all is good and its not about being in the limelight, its due to the fact that his took me some time to do in the little spare time that I have. Thank you for noticing the issue as all writers etc etc will be a little bit annoyed that their hard work goes unnoticed.

I recommend Neal for 1 season as the 1st there is no real stand out FB that you will be able to trade for, Neal can do a job for you for 1 season.
