NCAA 2010: AD mode option
Posted on January 11, 2009 at 05:34 PM.
OK, we've seen superstar mode and seen it become a waste. I know a lot of people have ideas how they want to improve gameplay, but I want a new feature to add to my dynasty mode.

That mode, the athletic director mode. Yes, AD mode. It has been an idea I've had for some time and think would help take the franchise to the next level. Superstar mode was an idea that few liked, but was an attempt at giving the game a new mode. AD mode will give us a whole lot more. Let me start with a few ideas.

The first thing they'd need is to get all the real coaches licensed. Why is this important in a mode about the athletic director? Well, because a good head coach is important to building a program and as he gets more wins, you have to deal with other schools trying to steal him from you as well as the NFL. Yes, I like the idea of the NFL coming calling. This can also should be imported into Madden if they do that as well.

While playing my current dynasty, I keep winning national championships with a smaller school and while larger schools come calling, I can always tell them no. In AD mode, you'll have to convince the coach to stay or find someone to replace him. Hire the wrong new guy and you might set your program back. But hire the right one and watch out.

Each coach should have a school loyalty rating. Someone like Joe Pa shouldn't be leaving for another program. He is Penn State. But a young coach like Urban Myer might decide he needs a new challenge.

Talking a coach into staying should be done much like you do with recruiting. You should have a few different points to choose from and hopefully you choose wisely. He might stay.

Also, if you feel your program is headed in the wrong direction, then you might be inclined to fire your current head coach, but you need to know your teams love for this coach. If you fire a coach with a high rating in team loyalty you may anger alumni and the players and hurt your team. The right hire might cure that, but that's all part of being an AD.

Also, you'll need position coaches. OC, DC Line coach, etc. Those are needed because you'll have to manage them. I also like the idea of a player, like a third string QB, who isn't going to be drafted being added to the staff after his playing days are over. That way, you might one day see him as your head coach.

Another part is trying to gain funds from boosters. You need a new practice field for your team? Well, then you'll have to convince the boosters you're on the right track. This means we'll need dynamic attendance from the start of the game. Every game should NOT be a sellout. If you're a big time program and winning all the time fine, but if you're a smaller program or a program in struggles, you shouldn't just get a sellout. Your success on the field helps gets those butts in the seats so it is important that is reflected for this mode to work.

One way an AD can get butts in the seat for a struggling or building program is to schedule bigger teams at home. In AD mode you can't just schedule the number one team in the country and force them to play out your house. You may have to agree to give them two at their place for one at yours. But that one at yours maybe the game changer that allows you to make your program big time.

Also, if you're in a smaller conference and trying to get in a larger one you might be in contact with that conference's officials and schedule a few more of them as non-conference opposition. You beat them and win big bowls, you might get in. Of course if you're running up the score on these teams, they might blackball you too.

I talked about boosters before. They will be in your ear a lot. Some ideas will be good ones and you might should consider them, but others will be bad. You'll have to be careful about who you listen to and who you don't. You don't take the idea of someone big up the food chain and you might not bet the funds for that stadium expansion you're seeking.

Oh yeah, as AD you should be able to either add expansions to your existing stadium or you should be able to build a brand new one. We see stadiums expanded all the time in college football and hopefully EA comes up with a way to allow us to do that.

One thing I'd love to see, but doubt that the NCAA will allow them to add to the mode is probation. As AD, you must keep your program honest. Boosters may bring good things to the program, but they could be bad news too. If you catch one of your more dishonest boosters you'll need to remove him from the program or risk NCAA probation. He might be your best booster and be helping get the best kids at your school, but if you stick with him, you could kill your own career.

The inside of the dynasty mode should remain the same. If you still want to recruit, then you should be allowed to do everything else like a coach, but now you can do the extra stuff too.
