Kobe midrange jumshot rating?
Posted on September 27, 2011 at 09:12 PM.
I need the email for the clown who put Kobe's midrange at 78. Before you comment please look at everyones midrange rating and tell me how sick 2K is for some of these midrange jumpshot ratings.

I think you have it wrong if you look at some of ths statistics you will see that Kobe is a poor yes poor mid range shooter last year. Sorry to tell yall this but men lie, women lie, but numbers don't lie. From 16-23 feet which most consider mid range Kobe only shot 38% last year and really. From 10-15ft he shot 51.5% which might line up with the close rating being 99 but once he stepped out further that is where you get 38% so that 78 is average or probably C+. They probably gave Kobe a better rating than needed. So the clown that gave Kobe that rating most likely based it on actual statistics lol . http://www.hoopdata.com/player.aspx?name=Kobe%20Bryant

Great job pulling out the stats. But stats aren't all basketball. You mean to tell guys like Tim Thomas, Sasha Vujacic, Juwaun Howard, are better midrange shooters. Which 2k says they are? pull me a stat that shows me you're on drugs if you believe to be correct. You get 2K and guys like you looking at a program instead of watching games and film which they should. Kobe's midrange whether he shot 38% or not on a bad knee, should be a around 83 to 86 minimum.

Naw I don't agree it is what it is, he doesn't shoot that well from that range 38% is bad, going back to 2007 man he is good from closer but from mid range he is below average and deserved the rating they gave him. I am not just talking last year a couple years he was below 40%. The stats say one of a few things Kobe is taking bad shots or Kobe isn't shooting well that is all you can read into it. Either way he is not that great so his mid range isn't that great.

You do know 2k plugs real stats into formulas to get ratings right? Why is Kobe immune to stats? 38% is 38% bad knee, fingers, whatever.

a mid range shot is a 10 footer to maybe 20 feet and out if you play basketball, and know basketball close range ratings are bogus. Close range is a lay up, so knock Kobe for him not making a pull up 22 footer.

SdotThaDon ^^^ exactly man people are so caught up in ratings and being a fan of their favorite player that they can't believe whoever they think is better doesn't have the overall they expect or certain rating. The ratings all have to come back to reality which is stats similar to what hoops data and entered into an equation and then you have your final rating. 2K stats are not perfect but they are close for the most part. I see all these threads that have the following "I can't believe X player is rated 84 and they got Y player rated 87", 2K ratings suck but very few are even looking at the real stats SMH

http://www.hoopdata.com/player.aspx?...asha%20Vujacic - sasha ( 1.8 makes out of 4.8 attempts)
http://www.hoopdata.com/player.aspx?...uwan%20Howard- howard (.5 makes out of 1.1 attempts)
Obviously better midrange shooters?--- think not.
There is your stat book for you both.
Let me play 2 minutes and hit 1 of every 2 shots and give me a 99 midrange please.

no way 2K can only go by a stat book. J.R. Smith 1.2 makes to 3.5 shots? and a 91 overall rating? see a problem. dude plays 25 plus minutes a game and launches way more threes that midrange yet gets a 91? Idk how they rate this year but in the past a 78 midrange means you arent hitting anything. Im trying to get you to see a stat book isnt a player

ccjj1010,

These are the standard stats man even if you combined Kobe%'s 10-15 ft with his 16-23 ft and called that mid range he still would be only a 41.8% shooter from those ranges, that again is not good at all. From 3-9 ft he is 48% which is most likely the close rating of 99. Out of the 20 shots per game Kobe takes 5.9 of those are in the 16-23 ft range so he takes 30% of shots from this range and is only making 38% of those. The numbers don't lie he is what he is great player just not a great mid range shooter. People hate to see Kobe in a bad light but he is not an efficent scorer and these stats tell a portion of it. He and the Lakers will be a great team to play with but he just is not as great as you think from mid range. However feel free to edit away as you wish it is your game and enjoy it the way you think it should be.

okay do you want kobe or Juwan howard shooting your midrange jumper then if all these numbers pan out?

# 11 ccjj1010 @ Sep 28
you are a fool and are highly ill if you think juwan howard is a better mid range shooter, or even sasha. Watch some tape 2k, not just what there J's form looks like. All my point is. That 78 midrange J makes kobe a garbage shooter which he is not. Take away one bad shot you from Kobe and go by your formula, he is a 45-50 percent shooter. Which is easily at least an 80. Let's get real here. You cant knock a player for shot selection in real life. When we are the ones shooting with them in a game.

ccjj1010,

I never said 2K rating system was perfect. I don't even know the equations they are using but your arguement for Kobe doesn't make sense because he actually takes a high quantity of mid range shots so his stats should be easy to line up with a rating. If a player takes a low quantity of shots say 1 per game and they got in 14 games the whole season then I would think 2K would use a longer history of data to give a rating for mid range. Your J.R. Smith example well dude shot 39% from 3pt land that is damn good they gave him a 85 for 3pt rating and 48% from 16-23 ft that is elite right therel they gave him a 91 med. From 10-15 he is was horrible 29.6% which lines up with his close rating being horrible 53 lol. The numbers are lining up man. I would think 2K would use this type of data or something similar to get their ratings and tweak some things here and there but Kobe is spot on in my eyes.

Dude you didnt even answer my question, and look at the links player. J.R. smith makes one a game? and doesnt shoot that many so you jack his stat way up. the reason why Kobe's 16-23 is percentage is low is because of bad shots, that has nothing to do with what his mid range ability is.

Juwan Howard or Kobe shooting your midrange shot?

kobe takes high quality 16 to 23 footers? He takes at least one or two bad ones a game. Like I said 2K (watch tape).
