So here I am, on a Friday night...

Drinking cheap wine and watching photo slideshows on my ex-girlfriend's blog.

A couple years.

I've liked other chicks since then and tried dating a few... but none of them spark me like she does.

How you figure that? It's not like I'm going to spill out my affections to her or anything (though we are idly chatting on MSN before she goes to bed).

Self-centered and fickle she is... and I still love her even in spite of it. *chuckles* I've tried bringing myself to hate her... Even managed it for a while... but the enchantress still weaves her magic... though it's nowhere near as potent as it once was, I don't think.

Hmmm. Sounds like you're walking a fine line between stalker and bridge jumper. One way to figure this out would be to rub one out, then see if you still feel the same way about her. If not, you may just be the classic stalker. If you still feel all tore up and stuff afteward then I'm afraid you could be destined for an overpass.

Neither one, actually. I went through the major depressive episodes earlier in my life already and I don't forsee a return to them. As for stalking her, that's not going to happen either.

It was just one of those nights where I suddenly got the urge to take a trip down Memory Lane.

Do I love her? Honestly, yeah... and even after all the shit that happened between us, if she asked me to take her back, I'd give it some very serious thought.

Things would have to change from before, though. On my part, I'd have to be less clingy and on her part, she'd have to be more honest and upfront with me about things. Those were the two biggest issues in the past.

My ex-girlfriend from years ago has been calling me recently. She's beautiful, intelligent, charming, etc. Way too good for me. But more than anything I just want to make her love me again so I again destroy her life with my rejection.

Yeh, I'm a little bitter.

It took about a year and a half before I got over her enough to start seeing other girls. Normally I don't get rocked by a girl that hard (In fact, I was famous back in high school for my resilency), but a lot of stuff told me she was the one... and to find out I was wrong caught me completely offguard.

I take it from your post that you were the one that rejected her in the first place. If it's not too personal, can I ask why? And why you would do it again if the chance arose?

Well, with 13,000 students at the University, the percentages are a lot higher than the school I was going to, with roughly about 4 or 5k

No, I didn't reject her. I was 18 when the shit hit the fan (23 now) and knew we loved each other and was naive enough to believe that meant something. She was one of those girls whose friends are all guys. I'm a jealous bastard who feels that no female in the world should be attracted to anyone but me.

So things headed south. I transferred to her college thinking I was gonna bust up in there like Benjamin Braddock and win her back. Guess what, that didn't work. I was there for two weeks or so. My day in it's entirity consisted of waking up at 3pm, walking to the gas station across the street, and buying a case of beer. Oh, yeh---and also drinking it. When I finally met her on campus it was incredibly awkward. I had always told myself that if I could look her in the eye and not see that love in return that I would give up. Well, I didn't see it. I stayed there for a week or so after I realized this, thinking of nothing but drinking and killing myself.

Man, I almost went to college in Laramie. I went down for freshman orientation and everything. I just decided that staying in North Dakota was better, mainly for financial reasons. I liked the campus though.

Yeah, I visited there going out of high school. Would have applied and ended up there back then, but the prof I spoke to me told me Wyoming didn't have the reputation of a UW-Madison or Princeton (the latter my dream school) so I changed my mind.

She is definately available now. We talk 4 or 5 hours a week and she always dropping obvious "hints" about how she's ready to start a family, etc. And about how I'm the most brilliant guy she's ever met (no arguments there). Do I have my jealousy issues under control? Maybe. Mostly, I just like myself better now. But I still can't shake the fantasy of hurting her as much as she hurt me. Do you know what hurt the most?

The night that all the shit went down, years ago, I called her. She was crying. I was crying. I just couldn't leave well enough alone--I had to know--why? But she just kept crying and asking: "Why are you acting like this?"

That was the worst part of it all. Not all that was irreperably damaged that night. But that I knew the answer to that question--"Why are you acting like this?"

Because, well, that's who I am. Nice to meet you, have a nice life.

That's who you *were*. It sounds to me like you've matured enough in the past five years that you can handle the shit what goes down now.

Go slow if you need to. That's all well and good.

But damn it, man... the chance to be back with her is THERE. Take it, for the love of all of us who have ever had to sit back and realize that the perfect unity and completion we all long for isn't going to come true for some of us.

I can't believe I'm going to quote Wedding Crashers... but God man... True love is one soul's recognition of its counterpoint in another.

If you think it's true about htis girl, don't give it up.... and don't surrender to your fantasy for revenge. In time, if you both are patient with each other, the scars can fade and the wish for venegance will diminish as well.
