Kidding about what Id like to see? No I have no doubt he is a professional qb. I just wonder if the bar isnt set to high. He takes what is given to him which is fine but at some point I would have loved for him to take over the game. Why was Stanford so afraid to turn him loose? They get to OT and they run the ball twice leaving Luck in a 3rd very long situation. My biggest question I have is why is the Stanford gameplan so conservative when you have this huge weapon on your hands. Why are they wasting valuable downs by running the ball. Luck should be more than capable of passing the ball whether the defense is expecting it or not. |

I don't think Stanford has the same talent levels to be able to run a more aggressive offense.

I dont know they have 2 of the top 10 picks in next years draft but their offense was fine. I think they only punted 13 times all year or something ridiculous like that. I was a bit too hard on Luck after thinking more about it. Two plays he made kind of bothered me but they are a reason he probably will be a stud at the next level. On a couple of 3rd down plays he took the "safe" check option instead of throwing it downfield and attempting to get the 1st down. I am not sure why Stanford ran the ball on 2nd and 14 in OT when you have the best QB in the nation. That is on the coaching and not Luck. |

If your QB only throws 4 incompletions and you're not winning by 10-20+ points, you didn't throw enough. I didn't get the playcalling for Stanford at all. I understand wanting to establish the run, and they ran it well a good chunk of the time, but they also put Luck in a few 3rd-and-long situations that killed their opportunities to pull ahead.
And personally, I have no problem going with check-downs instead of throwing an INT. When he had the chance to make a play, he did. There was one scramble to the right and bullet pass to the sideline that was beautiful. I like the fact that he's that young and doesn't feel the need to Romo-Favre-up a game by trying to do too much.

I wasn't necessarily defending Stanford playcalling, more defending Luck. I was assuming that those big throws weren't made because they just weren't there. I still think Luck is going to be an amazing NFL QB.

I think the thing Luck does so well is that he makes all the safe throws and slowly but surely marches down the field. He keeps making all those completions consistently, and if you keep making 7 to 11 yard throws all day, you are consistently making 1st downs. He's kind of the prototypical West Coast offense QB (IIRC, that was the knock on Joe Montana in the Bill Walsh days - it was only with George Seifert that they aired it out more often).

I thought it was really weird to play for a FG when the ball is at the half-yard line, anyway. I can understand 3-5 yards away, and a fumble can happen anywhere, but damn, I'd rather try at least one QB sneak or dive for the TD and then set up the FG before I just hand the game to a foot.

Not sure I've seen it here, but I can't believe the horrible coaching at the end of the Oregon-Wisc game. You make that big completion with 2 seconds left, then try to spike the ball when the clock is moving at the whistle? They had like 20 seconds to get set while the officials were spotting the ball and getting ready, I just don't understand how you try and spike a ball with <2 seconds left. With just 20 yards to the endzone.

For the sake of my Facebook sanity, I would really like a win by Michigan. Plus, it would mean the Big Ten finishes at 4-6 which, while not good, is better than 3-7.

And it already showed on the first drive. It's one thing if it happens even during the week of the game but during warmups is a killer. Horrid decision by the VT back though.

It wasn't a fake. The kicker missteps and has no chance at a kick so the holder picks it up and runs with it.

I just sent ESPN a e-mail, which I'm sure they won;t care about, regarding the idiot thing the announcer said about 15 minutes ago, that West Virginia University is another school from the state of Virginia.

Hard to see how you wouldn't. Michigan hasn't done much of anything on offense all night. The offense has basically boiled down to two big plays, both of which where throw it up and pray passes off the back foot.

What the hell are people looking at? The ball hit the ground and was the only reason he controlled it to his stomach.

I blame the NFL for fucking up what the hell a catch is. No one uses common sense any more. He didn't have an arm under the ball and never had possession before the ball touched the ground. Not a catch.

Still not over. Michigan has struggled moving the ball all game and Michigan's kicker isn't Mr. Automatic.

That was the 3rd time the Michigan kicker moved forward pre-snap. I don't get why that's not a penalty.

Man, that replay showed him clearly moving pre-snap. That's a penalty. Does he always do that? He has tonight.
