Best Fielder Awards Winners in CL Announced
Friday, November 14th, 2177: What does it take to win a Best Fielder Awards? It's a combination of good hands, knowing how to play the hitters, all-out hustle and a willingness to sacrifice your body to make a play. Good speed and a good arm never hurt, either, but not always required. This year's all-defense team in the Continental League consists of:

Friday, November 14th, 2177: "Hit 'em where they ain't" is a great hitting philosophy, but it doesn't always work when a fielder can seemingly appear out of nowhere to make the play. These magicians are often taken for granted as the season grinds along, but today they take center stage. The Republic League Best Fielder Awards selections for 2177 are:

CL Announces 2177 Benny Myers Rookie of the Year Award
Saturday, November 15th, 2177: Last spring Ken Whitaker was happy to just make the Assassins roster. He was overjoyed to see the name "Whitaker" on the lineup card, too. Now the 25-year-old Apex second baseman has capped off his debut season by winning the coveted Continental League Benny Myers Rookie of the Year Award.

Whitaker won the award by hitting .271 and collecting 123 hits, 3 home runs, 51 RBIs and 40 walks, along with 62 runs scored and a .367 on-base percentage.


RL Benny Myers Rookie of the Year Award Given Out
Saturday, November 15th, 2177: 2177 was a much better year than Tomás Viera expected. This spring he was overjoyed at just making the Hartford roster. Not only did he make the team, he was the starting shortstop. Then it got even better.

In his debut season, Viera hit .305 with 124 hits in 406 at-bats, 15 home runs, 58 RBIs, 50 bases on balls and a .386 on-base percentage -- good enough numbers to be honored with the Republic League Benny Myers Rookie of the Year Award.

CL Announces Gabriel Prado Award
Monday, November 17th, 2177: It was as good as money in the bank when Luis Sánchez took the hill for Cleveland. He paid his club back with interest this season with a superb 21-7 mark, collecting the Continental League Gabriel Prado Award for 2177.

The Cyclones star delighted the hometown fans with a fine 2.60 ERA and 222 strikeouts in 232.1 innings. Sánchez surrendered 193 hits and 69 walks and limited opposing batters to a .228 batting average.


Montreal Stopper Takes Gabriel Prado Award
Monday, November 17th, 2177: This year's winner of the coveted Republic League Gabriel Prado Award is Randy O'Rourke of the Montreal Royals.

During the 2177 campaign, O'Rourke excelled with a 20-9 won-lost mark in 33 starts. In 241 innings he yielded 202 hits and 47 walks, while striking out 168 and compiling an impressive 2.43 ERA.

McCutcheon Nabs CL Hideaki Tanaka Award
Tuesday, November 18th, 2177: The Continental League has given Jeff McCutcheon the Hideaki Tanaka Award.

In 2177, the Baltimore right fielder was outstanding with a .363 batting average, 39 doubles, 8 triples, 40 home runs and 126 RBIs. McCutcheon also had 46 walks, scored 111 times and posted a .404 on-base percentage.


Sánchez Selected RL's #1 Batter
Tuesday, November 18th, 2177: 2177 was a special season for Montreal center fielder Guillermo Sánchez and it was capped off today with the announcement that he was named the winner of the Republic League Hideaki Tanaka Award.

Sánchez compiled a .339 batting average and a .418 on-base percentage this year. In 162 games he piled up 210 hits, 30 doubles, 2 triples, 27 home runs, 90 RBIs and 106 runs scored.
