Plantana Left Fielder CL's Best Batter in April

Juan López was declared the Continental League Batter of the Month today. Plantana's left fielder stroked 43 hits in 112 at-bats for a .384 average in April.

He also hit 3 home runs, drove in 16 and scored 20 runs.


Costello Takes Best Bat Award in April

Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 28-year-old José Costello put together a solid offensive month for Chicago and was crowned April's top batter in the Republic League.

He batted .423 with 3 home runs, 23 RBIs and 12 runs scored.

García Wins Best CL Pitcher

Veteran Raúl García put together quite a successful stretch in April for the Plantana Pirates, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

García racked up a 4-0 record in 7 starts, posting a 1.61 ERA over 44.2 innings and striking out 24.


Taylor Grabs RL Top Pitcher Trophy

Ryan Taylor was the anchor in the Ann Arbor bullpen last month and snatched up the Republic League Pitcher of the Month honors for April. The 31-year-old is in the prime of his career and pitching like he intends to stay around baseball for quite some time to come.

He threw 13.2 innings over 13 relief appearances and collected a 2-0 record with 22 strikeouts and 9 saves while etching his 1.32 ERA.

CL Announces Rookie of the Month

Mark O'Donnell wreaked havoc on Continental League pitching last month and led the charge for the Rookie of the Month Award.

In April he batted .413 for the Mullets, lashing 26 hits and 3 home runs. The Oshawa first baseman also drove in 16 runs and scored 10 times to round out a most impressive month.


RL Selects Rookie Star of the Month

Will Pittman earned April's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Cleveland right fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Pittman hit .284 with 4 home runs, 16 RBIs and 19 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

May's CL Batter of Month Award Announced
Friday, June 1st, 2114
Billy Harris of the Omaha Bees recorded a .319 batting average in May. His hitting spree racked up the Continental League Batter of the Month award for his trophy case.

The Omaha catcher battered opposing pitchers all month, accumulating 8 home runs, 30 RBIs and scoring 26 runs.

Harris is currently hitting at a .275 pace with 10 home runs and 46 RBIs.


May's Best Batter Announced

Domingo Jaimes battered Republic League pitchers all May and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around FOOL-X long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 25-year-old Jaimes told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 28 games, Jaimes hit .395 with 4 home runs, 18 RBIs and scored 17 runs.

To date this season Jaimes is hitting .383 with 6 home runs.

CL Top Pitcher Award for May to Parker

Kelly Parker has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in May and stole away with the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Terriers bullpen ace collected 7 saves and 21 strikeouts in 18.2 innings, holding the opposition to a .141 average and posting a 0.96 ERA and a 2-0 record.

He has made 26 relief appearances this year with 12 saves. Parker has achieved a 2-1 record while holding opposing hitters to a .153 batting average and posting a 1.61 ERA. He has tossed 28 innings, given up 15 base hits, fanned 33 and issued 12 walks.


Beach Boys Starter Wins RL Pitching Award

As Gian Consiglio hoisted up the Republic League Pitcher of the Month trophy for May, rumors have already begun to swirl about whether he will leave Waikiki once his contract is up at the end of the season.

Consiglio put pressure on the Beach Boys to keep him around by posting a 5-1 record and an ERA of 3.05 over 38.1 innings last month. He also rolled up 25 strikeouts, increasing his value both to Waikiki and to every other team in the league.

For the season Consiglio has logged 5 wins and 5 losses and struck out 42 batters in 58.2 innings while compiling a 6.29 ERA.

Continental League Names Rookie of Month

A veritable toddler to the Continental League, Cristóbal Pérez just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for May.

Over the past month the 25-year-old center fielder for St Louis hit .390 with 32 hits, no home runs and 10 runs batted in. He also logged 8 walks and compiled a .444 on-base percentage.

This season Pérez is hitting at a .294 pace with no home runs, 13 RBIs and has scored 13 times.


RL Announces Rookie of the Month

Carlos Meléndez's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Chicago left fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In May he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .312 with 3 doubles, no triples and 3 home runs. Meléndez also scored 23 times and drove in 11 runs.

Thus far this year Meléndez is batting .274 with 6 home runs, 21 RBIs and 36 runs scored.

López Garners CL Batter of the Month Award

Today Oshawa's Júlio López was named the Continental League Batter of the Month for June. He punished CL hurlers hard all month long, collecting 41 hits in 110 at-bats.

With a .373 batting average, 8 home runs, 26 RBIs and 25 runs scored, he was an easy choice.

López is hitting at a .338 mark this season. His stats show 12 home runs, 52 RBIs and 67 runs scored. He has played 81 games for the Mullets.


Guzmán Top Hitter in RL in June

To survive in the bigs, you've got to be a scrapper like Eduardo Guzmán. It never pays to take a day off from the batting cages or to shrug off the advice of the hitting coach. It all paid off today as Las Vegas's shortstop pinned down the Republic League Batter of the Month trophy today.

He hit .364 in June collecting 9 home runs, 28 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

For the season, Guzmán is hitting at a .285 clip with 16 home runs, 55 RBIs and has scored 41 runs. He has 91 hits, 26 walks and a .342 on-base percentage.

Continental League Announces Top Starter

The best pitcher this past month in the Continental League was Kevin Dadswell of the Oshawa Mullets. He really razzle-dazzled league hitters, finishing June with a standout 5-0 record and 1.47 ERA.

The Mullets hurler made 5 starts and surrendered 25 hits in 36.2 innings. He struck out 24 and walked 9.

To date this year, Dadswell shows a 10-1 record, 14 starts, 94.1 innings, 62 strikeouts and a 2.10 ERA.


June's Top Hurler is Dukes

Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Jimmy Dukes still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in June. The 27-year-old starter for Waikiki was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 4 wins and no losses with 40 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 2.17 ERA in 37.1 innings of work.

This season-to-date Dukes has 8 wins and 5 losses and a 2.57 ERA.

Youngster António Rocha emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from St Louis deserved the honor, batting .393 with 9 home runs and 28 RBI. Is the month of June a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Rocha enjoy the limelight.

This season Rocha is batting .271 with 12 home runs. He has scored 36 runs and driven in 39.

Jeff Davis is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In June the Waikiki hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .280 average with 30 hits, 3 home runs and 14 RBIs.

Presently Davis is batting .287 with 8 home runs and 34 RBIs. He has played in 80 games and scored 48 times.

Arévalo Gets CL Batter of the Month Trophy

In July, Cris Arévalo let his bat do the talking for him. The Omaha shortstop smacked the ball at a .300 average as he laid claim to the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

He rapped 7 home runs, drove in 18 and scored 24 runs.

This year Arévalo is batting .304 with 123 hits and 15 home runs. He has scored 98 times and has batted in 61 runs.

Jack Andersen of the Portland Axemen stood out in July with a .316 batting average against Republic League pitchers to land him the Batter of the Month award.

The 26-year-old second baseman totaled 11 home runs, 23 RBIs and 17 runs scored. He also chipped in 8 walks for a .361 on-base percentage.

So far this year Andersen is hitting .226 with 21 home runs.

González Earns July's Best Pitcher Honor

Jaime González of the Mullets pretty much bewildered opposing batters in July and was honored as the Continental League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

The Oshawa starter sparkled last month with a 4-0 record and 1.69 ERA. He made 5 starts, tossed 42.2 innings and had 41 strikeouts.

González has made 18 starts, tossed 124.1 innings, struck out 139 batters and walked 30. His record is 8-5 with a 3.11 ERA and he has limited other teams to a .226 batting average.


Hitmen Ikeda Named RL's Best Pitcher

"The kid had it all working last month," a veteran teammate told reporters. "He keeps up those kind of numbers, we might have to start inviting him out with us after the games."

Mitsuhide Ikeda put together a very solid month to take home the Republic League's top pitching honor in July.

The 25-year-old reliever threw like a veteran. In 13 relief appearances he raked in 10 saves and 17 strikeouts in 13 innings as he put together his 1-0 record and 0.00 ERA.

Ikeda has nailed down 29 saves to date. In 46 innings he has fanned 54 batters and walked 10. His pitching record is 3 wins and no losses with a 0.78 ERA.

De Jesús Earns CL Rookie of Month

The whole town is celebrating today in Plantana as Cristián De Jesús has just been awarded July's Continental League Rookie of the Month trophy.

The standout rookie center fielder took the award by rapping out 31 hits in 107 at-bats for a .290 batting average. During the month he collected 2 home runs, drove in 4 runs and scored 16 times.

So far this year De Jesús has hit .272 with 9 home runs, 32 RBIs and 58 runs scored.


Lorenzo Velásquez Triumphs in RL Rookie Vote

Arévalo Claims CL Batter of the Month Award

Cris Arévalo put his mark on the Continental League this August by putting together some award-winning numbers. Omaha's shortstop took home the Batter of the Month award on the strength of his .421 batting average.

He tacked up 45 hits, 5 home runs, 29 RBIs and 28 runs scored.

For the season Arévalo has produced 168 hits in 511 at-bats for a .329 average with 20 home runs and gotten on base at a .444 clip.


McMonegal Wins RL's Best Bat Award

In August, Waikiki Beach Boys left fielder Melvin McMonegal claimed the Republic League Batter of the Month award.

The 30-year-old swung with confidence, hitting .405 with 7 home runs, 16 RBIs and 24 runs scored.

So far in 2114 McMonegal is batting .293 with 25 home runs, 62 RBIs and 101 runs scored. He has 164 hits in 559 at-bats and a .380 OBP.

Continental League Selects #1 Starter in August

Whether Manny Sánchez stays in Havana beyond this season remains to be seen, but while he's here he's making the most of it. In August the 30-year-old certainly pulled out all the stops by winning the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

He put up some fancy numbers with a 3-1 record and and an ERA of 1.29. In 35 innings he struck out 34, surrendered 27 hits, 4 walks and proved to be a solid performer in 5 starts last month.

To date this season, Sánchez has a record of 11 wins and 10 losses and a 3.72 ERA. He has appeared in 27 games and struck out 169 in 164.2 innings.


Ann Arbor's Alemán Top Pitcher in August

In August Ann Arbor starter, Ricardo Alemán really put the strong arm on the other Republic League teams and hauled in the Pitcher of the Month trophy. He did it with an impressive 4 wins and 1 loss.

In 5 starts and 36.1 innings of work, Alemán limited opposing batters to 30 base hits and a .217 batting average. He fanned 32, issued 2 walks and had a 2.23 ERA.

Up to now Alemán has compiled an ERA of 2.83 with a 13-6 mark over 27 starts. He has 164 strikeouts in 184.2 innings and has held opponents to a .216 batting average.

The premier first-year player in the Continental League last month was Devin Burry. Manchester's left fielder put up some big-time numbers in August to haul in the Rookie of the Month Award.

Burry hit at a .391 clip while collecting 5 home runs, 16 RBIs and scoring 15 runs in 25 games.

Burry is swinging at a .362 pace on the year with 14 home runs, 67 RBIs and 61 runs scored. He has played in 118 games.


Meléndez Voted August's Rookie Trophy

Almost everyone agreed -- fans, teammates, peers -- and BNN sportwriters, too -- that Carlos Meléndez was worthy of the Republic League Rookie of the Month award.

In the month of August the Chicago left fielder was a bigtime threat. The 23-year-old Chicago left fielder played in 26 games and hit .300 with 3 doubles, 2 triples and 3 home runs. Meléndez also scored 20 times and drove in 9 runs.

Perhaps you offered him a minor league contract with a major league deal within 30 days or something and offered him 10 million under that...He had to be called up on those 30 days to be paid that 10 mil.

Arce is on a contract for 12.2 Million. Like Eddie mentioned, perhaps I offered him minor league with major league option.

Also, I thought I had a 4 man rotation but I just had 4 guys in a rotation set for 5.

I make plenty of mistakes.
