Only 18 of 39 voters have an opinion for King Crimson v. America. Curious whether that's because of ambivalent opinions, the passage of time (late 60s to mid 70s covers both groups' heydays), or what?

America is one of my all time favorite bands which is odd since I listen to nothing else that is anything like them.

Same with Huey Lewis. Like a lot of their stuff, but generally dislike anything else with a 50s feel.

I have no clue who either of those group are, so I couldn't really cast a vote for either.

I confess I was confusing the white stripes with stryper and white lion. Stripes is Jack White yes?

I love me some America, but they're pretty much impossible to defend. Their 'brand' seems to be based around a complete lack of soul. Maybe needs more acoustic guitars?

America kinda remind me of most of the Moody Blues' catalog... pleasant, but sterile.

Just bumping to make sure the epic battle between Rage and Sting gets as many votes as possible.

Disappointing that Linkin Park and the Killers couldn't keep their match-ups closer.

I hope RatM goes down in flames, much like the monk on the cover of their first album. What a sham. Never seen mock anger be so profitable.

"Mock anger"? There are valid critiques of Rage Against the Machine, but the veracity of their anger isn't one of them.

How about: I don't believe they believe what they claim. NWA? I believe. NOFX? I believe. Propaghandi? Definitely believe that they are honest. Been ages since I first heard RatM so I've lost a lot of the reasons for my derision to the sands of time.

I don't like RatM either, but for the opposite reason, they're just trying way too hard for my liking. They put reading lists in their records. Come on.

If I had an album I'd put in a reading list with some random Archies, the Busy World of Richard Scary, and assorted Little Golden Books.

I don't know a ton of either (a song or two from King Crimson, 3-4 from America). I like one America song, but mostly I feel meh towards both so I abstained.

Now wondering if the lack of engagement is because of the genres. King Crimson was ur-prog, didn't get a ton of exposure compared to Yes/Genesis/ELP after them. America was a hit machine, but pretty anodyne--easy listening without the Eagles' edge.
