Harper's 32-Game Hitting Streak Ends
Thursday, April 28th, 1921: George Harper's 32-game hitting streak has now come and gone. It was snapped today in the Pirates 7-4 setback to the Cubs. Harper went without a hit in 4 trips to the plate. Talking to BNN after the game he was visibly upset. But the streak had little to do with it. "I'm disappointed we lost, I'm not one bit disappointed that the streak ended," Harper said. "The hitting streak was just one of those things where it was fun while it lasted, but I'm not going to lose any sleep tonight." Harper is hitting at a .381 mark this season. His stats show 7 home runs, 24 RBIs and 25 runs scored. He has played 25 games for the Pirates. |

NL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Sunday, May 1st, 1921: Lu Blue's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Brooklyn first baseman has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month. In April he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award. During the month he hit .311 with 4 doubles, 2 triples and 2 home runs. Blue also scored 21 times and drove in 13 runs. American League Names Rookie of Month Sunday, May 1st, 1921: Chicken Hawks was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 25-year-old center fielder definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen April's American League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting. In 27 games Hawks batted .300 for Philadelphia, slapping 30 hits in 100 at-bats with 1 home run, drove in 16 runs and scored 12 times. April's #1 Starter Named in NL Sunday, May 1st, 1921: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Dazzy Vance still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in April. The 30-year-old starter for Pittsburgh was named National League Pitcher of the Month earlier today. He collected 5 wins and 1 loss with 42 strikeouts in his 8 starts, putting up a fine 3.97 ERA in 59 innings of work. |

Wednesday, June 1st, 1921: Youngster Lu Blue emerged as the latest National League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Brooklyn deserved the honor, batting .292 with 2 home runs and 10 runs batted in. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Blue enjoy the limelight. Blue is batting .301 this season in 53 games with 4 home runs, 23 RBIs and 30 runs scored. He has 66 hits in 219 at-bats. Marquee Month for Hawks, Top AL Rookie Wednesday, June 1st, 1921: A veritable toddler to the American League, Chicken Hawks just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for May. Caldwell Grabs AL Top Pitcher Trophy
Wednesday, June 1st, 1921: Ray Caldwell's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 5-0 in May, the 33-year-old Boston hurler has been named American League Pitcher of the Month. He fanned 42 in 53.1 innings, logged an ERA of 3.04 and allowed opponents to hit .275 against him. So far this season Caldwell has a record of 10-0 with 75 strikeouts and 37 walks in 102 innings and a 2.74 ERA. Red-Hot May Lands Jackson Batting Prize in NL Wednesday, June 1st, 1921: Though his face is weathered and his hands are calloused, Joe Jackson can still get it done in FOOL-Historical. In fact, the 31-year-old left fielder for New York was named the National League Batter of the Month today after putting up an impressive performance at the plate. In May he batted .390 with 1 home run, 21 RBIs and 25 runs scored. So far this season Jackson has gotten 80 hits in 211 at-bats for a .379 batting average with 3 home runs. His stats include 44 RBIs and 49 runs scored. He has played in 56 games. AL's Best Batter Selected Wednesday, June 1st, 1921: Babe Ruth battered American League pitchers all May and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award. "I've been around FOOL-Historical long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 26-year-old Ruth told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I may not take the field and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month." In 28 games, Ruth hit .362 with 9 home runs, 23 RBIs and scored 28 runs. Ruth is presently hitting at a .321 pace with 13 home runs, 40 RBIs and has scored 42 times. |

In real life, Nelson Louis "Chicken" Hawks only played two seasons in the majors. He broke in with the Yankees at age 25 in 1921 and ended up with the Phillies four seasons later in 1925 and then was out of baseball for good.
He had 7 career HRs and 60 RBI in 146 games he played in his career. He already has 6 HRs and 49 RBI in his first FOOL-H season. |

Premier Rookie Named by NL
Thursday, September 1st, 1921: Norman Stearnes was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 20-year-old left fielder definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen August's National League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting. In 28 games Stearnes batted .261 for Cincinnati, slapping 30 hits in 115 at-bats with 3 home runs, drove in 9 runs and scored 9 times. Stearnes is hitting .249 so far this season with 93 RBIs and 77 runs scored. He has 140 hits including 19 home runs, 28 walks and .285 OBP. August's #1 Rookie Named by AL Thursday, September 1st, 1921: When all of the votes were counted for the Rookie of the Month in August, Chicken Hawks of the Philadelphia Athletics was on top of the pile. The standout center fielder rifled hits here, there and everywhere in American League ballparks the entire month to win the honor. The 25-year-old center fielder took the trophy by putting up a .337 average and .370 on-base percentage, 34 hits, 1 home run, 15 RBIs and 14 runs scored. This season-to-date Hawks has 8 home runs and a .310 batting average. NL Selects Fisher August's Best Pitcher Thursday, September 1st, 1921: Ray Fisher nailed down August's National League Pitcher of the Month award today, adding pressure on Boston to get a deal done before the 33-year-old becomes a free agent. Fisher seems unfazed by the talk. "We get a deal done or we don't," he told reporters, "I'm not worrying about next year. Worrying about next year isn't what wins awards, you know?" He fashioned a 5-1 record, reeled off 30 strikeouts, worked 52 innings and held batters to a .225 average for the month as he posted a 2.42 ERA. This season-to-date, Fisher has fashioned a 17-11 mark and 3.35 ERA in 233.2 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .260 against him and he has logged 116 strikeouts. Cobb of New York NL Batter of the Month Thursday, September 1st, 1921: On the heels of a very productive August, Ty Cobb received National League Batter of the Month recognition today. The battle-tested center fielder hit .443 for the New York Giants and racked up no home runs, 17 RBIs and 25 runs scored. Cobb has a .375 average and a .409 on-base percentage for the year. He has picked up 221 hits, 2 home runs and driven in 77 runs. Best Pitcher Picked by American League Thursday, September 1st, 1921: There was little doubt around the American League that Ray Collins would be awarded Pitcher of the Month honors for August. Today, they made it official, naming the 34-year-old Washington Senators starter the latest honoree. He thoroughly dominated the hitters who stood in against him, holding them to a .240 batting average while fashioning a 1.58 ERA in 7 starts. His record for the month was 6-1 in 57 innings of work. In 33 starts this season, Collins has picked up 19 wins while suffering 9 losses. He has pitched 254.2 innings, allowed 240 hits, struck out 101 and posted a 2.72 ERA. |

The Pirates had a huge last month of the season to get away from a tight race with the Giants, going 21 and 6.

I, on the other hand, will not be rooting for the Yankees. Ever. They dispatched me the last time we met in the AL playoffs so I am hoping for a better result from my guys. We split the season series so it should be good. Pittsburgh went 21-6 in September to surge into the playoffs past the Giants who fell apart with an 8-17 mark to finish the year. Gotta like that kind of effort! Good luck to everyone (including you Tim).
