Sunday, May 1st, 2174: In April, Brooklyn Brownstones second baseman Reginald Murphy claimed the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

The 26-year-old swung with confidence, hitting .325 with 7 home runs, 22 RBIs and 25 runs scored.


Torrid April Gets Correa RL #1 Batter Trophy
Sunday, May 1st, 2174: Pedro Correa battered Republic League pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 34-year-old Correa told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 27 games, Correa hit .351 with 8 home runs, 25 RBIs and scored 27 runs.

Lang Earns CL's Best Pitcher Honor
Sunday, May 1st, 2174: In April, Ken Lang tore through the Continental League like a seasoned veteran -- quite impressive for a player only 24 years old.

The young Napa Valley starter posted a 5-0 mark and an ERA of 2.77 to earn the Pitcher of the Month award. In 39 innings he collected 28 strikeouts while limiting the opposition to a .275 average.


RL Selects Deushi April's #1 Pitcher
Sunday, May 1st, 2174: Robun Deushi of the Omaha Bees outdistanced his peers on the mound this month. He fashioned a fine 4-1 won-lost mark and 1.91 ERA in 5 starts to get the Republic League Pitcher of the Month honors.

Deushi had a very impressive April, finishing with 27 strikeouts in 37.2 innings and holding opposing hitters to a .228 average.

Sunday, May 1st, 2174: A veritable toddler to the Continental League, Ed Quinlan just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for April.

Over the past month the 25-year-old catcher for Brooklyn hit .303 with 27 hits, no home runs and 9 RBI. He also logged 2 walks and compiled a .319 on-base percentage.


Republic League Names Rookie of Month
Sunday, May 1st, 2174: Francisco Ramírez was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 23-year-old second baseman definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen April's Republic League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 25 games Ramírez batted .240 for Montreal, slapping 18 hits in 75 at-bats with 1 home run, drove in 4 runs and scored 10 times.

CL Announces Outstanding Batter Award
Wednesday, June 1st, 2174: In the month of May Francisco Montés thumped the ball with authority, earning Continental League Batter of the Month honors in the process.

Brooklyn's shortstop hit .408 with 8 home runs, 28 RBIs and scored 19 runs.

A look at his current stats shows Montés with a .389 average, 11 home runs, 43 RBIs and 35 runs scored. He has played in 51 games.


Pérez Wins Best Bat Trophy in May
Wednesday, June 1st, 2174: Hartford's Lorenzo Pérez had a productive May and topped it off by winning the Batter of the Month citation from the Republic League.

The 25-year-old shortstop stood out at the plate with a .359 batting average, 9 home runs, 25 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

This season Pérez is batting .338 with 68 hits and 14 home runs. He has scored 41 times and has 45 runs batted in.

Continental League Picks Best Starter in May
Wednesday, June 1st, 2174: Veteran Alan Field put together quite a successful stretch in May for the Noblesville Millers, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

Field racked up a 5-0 record in 5 starts, posting a 1.24 ERA over 36.1 innings and striking out 36.

Checking out his stats for the season, Field has registered 8 wins and no losses in 11 starts, 1.15 ERA and struck out 68 batters in 78 innings.


Riverhawks Reliever Cops Pitching Award
Wednesday, June 1st, 2174: When Raymond Vachon strolls in from the bullpen, he is a good bet to nail down the victory for the Hartford Riverhawks. That's the way it was last month as he performed his job in an almost flawless fashion. Today he was honored as May's Pitcher of the Month by the Republic League.

The Hartford pitcher compiled a 1-0 record, 9 saves, 9 strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA in 11.2 innings over 11 relief appearances.

This year Vachon has chalked up 23 relief appearances, worked 22.1 innings, struck out 20 and issued 10 walks. He has 13 saves with a 3.22 ERA and a 1-1 won-lost mark.

Premier Rookie Named by CL
Wednesday, June 1st, 2174: Youngster Jeff McCutcheon emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Baltimore deserved the honor, batting .294 with 5 home runs and 14 runs batted in. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let McCutcheon enjoy the limelight.

So far this year McCutcheon has 5 home runs and a .253 batting average.


Ann Arbor Left Fielder May's Premier Rookie
Wednesday, June 1st, 2174: Ánibal Albear is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In May the Ann Arbor hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .356 average with 36 hits, 8 home runs and 22 RBIs.

For the season Albear has hit .279 with 10 home runs and 30 RBIs. He has played in 49 games and scored 35 times.

Windus Brings Home CL Batter of Month Honor
Friday, July 1st, 2174: Graham Windus used that sweet swing with great success for Noblesville last month, garnering him the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

The 28-year-old left fielder put up a .323 batting average and collected 9 home runs, 26 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

So far this year Windus is batting .261 with 18 home runs.

Friday, July 1st, 2174: Toronto first baseman Mario Rivera took home the Republic League Batter of the Month Trophy for June.

He put up some solid numbers, including a .472 batting average and .551 on-base percentage with 42 hits, 10 home runs, 29 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

This year Rivera has 14 home runs and a .378 batting average.

June's Top Hurler is Shelton
Friday, July 1st, 2174: The elite pitcher this past month in the Continental League was Carter Shelton of the Apex Assassins. He stood head and shoulders above the rest, finishing June with an extraordinary 4-0 record and a 1.73 ERA.

The Assassins star hurler made 6 starts and surrendered 30 hits in 41.2 innings. He struck out 24 and walked 7.

This season Shelton has compiled a 8-3 mark, 3.01 ERA and made 16 starts.


Medina Tabbed as June's Starter of the Month
Friday, July 1st, 2174: This month when the Omaha manager wrote the name "Medina" on the lineup card, he was pretty confident that he would get a good start out of him. Outing after outing in June Juan Medina took command and usually got the win.

He dominated with a 4-0 mark and 2.83 ERA in 6 starts, piling up 41.1 innings and 18 strikeouts and holding opposing teams to a .277 average.

For his superb performance Medina was named the Republic League Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers.

This year Medina has a 6-6 record and a 3.87 ERA.

McGuigan Selected June's Top Newcomer
Friday, July 1st, 2174: One of the bright young starters in the Continental League, Bill McGuigan is living up to the potential that Gothams scouts thought might be there.

As a starter for Baltimore, McGuigan paced his team with a 5-0 record in June to earn himself Rookie of the Month accolades.

He made 5 starts, tossed 37 innings, struck out 15 batters and allowed the opposition to hit .226 against him.

On the season McGuigan has compiled a 11-3 mark with a 3.87 ERA in 15 starts. In pitching 100 innings he has 47 strikeouts and 27 walks while limiting the opposition to a .264 batting average.


Top RL Rookie of the Month Named
Friday, July 1st, 2174: Ánibal Albear's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Ann Arbor left fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In June he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .242 with 4 doubles, no triples and 4 home runs. Albear also scored 9 times and drove in 13 runs.

This year Albear is batting .267 with 14 home runs.

Super Month Nets Soto #1 Batter Prize in CL
Monday, August 1st, 2174: In July, Napa Valley Winemakers second baseman Jesús Soto claimed the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

The 23-year-old swung with confidence, hitting .352 with 9 home runs, 32 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

This season Soto is swinging the bat at a .287 rate with 119 hits in 414 at-bats. To date he has hit 19 home runs, scored 58 runs and driven in 70.


Marín Wins RL's Best Bat Trophy
Monday, August 1st, 2174: Prospective free agents love to have hot streaks and Ramón Marín is no exception. The Hartford right fielder capped off a fine month by hauling in Batter of the Month honors in the Republic League.

In July Marín hit .274 with 13 home runs, 37 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

For the year Marín has hit .281 with 24 home runs, 87 RBIs and scored 74 runs.

Garza Earns CL Top Pitcher Trophy
Monday, August 1st, 2174: The best pitcher this past month in the Continental League was Roberto Garza of the Noblesville Millers. He really razzle-dazzled league hitters, finishing July with a standout 4-2 record and 2.00 ERA.

The Millers hurler made 6 starts and surrendered 34 hits in 45 innings. He struck out 32 and walked 6.

This season Garza has a 10-7 record with a 3.18 ERA.


RL Honors July's #1 Pitcher
Monday, August 1st, 2174: It was a very good month for Lucien Martel in July. The 38-year-old veteran starter for the Colorado Rancheros outpitched everybody -- young and old -- to claim the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award earlier today.

Martel ran up a 5-0 record in his 5 starts during the month. In 36.1 innings he fanned 13 and recorded a 2.97 ERA.

In 21 starts this season Martel has compiled a 14-5 record and a 3.27 ERA.

Hernández Wins CL Rookie Award
Monday, August 1st, 2174: One of the Continental League's brightest newcomers, Emílio Hernández was at the head of his class in July as he picked up the Rookie of the Month honors.

The 26-year-old Apex third baseman batted .352 with 7 home runs and 13 RBIs.

For the season Hernández is batting .281 with 65 hits and 16 home runs. He has scored 39 times and batted in 38.


Albear Voted July's Best RL Rookie
Monday, August 1st, 2174: Ánibal Albear earned July's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Ann Arbor left fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Albear hit .190 with 4 home runs, 12 RBIs and 16 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

August's Premier Batter Announced
Thursday, September 1st, 2174: August was an outstanding month for Brooklyn center fielder Orlando Ramírez and it was capped off today with the announcement that he was named the winner of the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

Ramírez compiled a .347 batting average and .419 on-base percentage for the month. In 29 games he piled up 41 hits, 8 home runs, 22 RBIs and 32 runs scored.

To date, Ramírez has collected 154 hits for a .312 average. He has posted 26 home runs, scored 102 runs and driven in 72 runs.

CL Top Pitcher for August Picked
Thursday, September 1st, 2174: Alejandro Gómez hated to see August turn to September.
And who could blame him?
The 27-year-old hurler piled up 4 wins and no losses for the Brownstones last month and won the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award for his efforts.

Gómez stymied opposing batters on 33 base hits and a .204 batting average. He rang up 34 strikeouts in 45.2 innings of work, surrendered 3 walks and fashioned a sparkling 1.77 ERA.

Over the season Gómez has thrown 171 innings and dished out 129 strikeouts with a 15-6 mark and a 2.89 ERA.


August's RL Top Pitcher is Riverhawks Matsuda
Thursday, September 1st, 2174: Hiroshi Matsuda's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 5-0 in August, the 32-year-old Hartford hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 32 in 41 innings, logged an ERA of 2.63 and allowed opponents to hit .230 against him.

To date this season Matsuda has compiled a 14-9 record with a 4.49 ERA in 26 starts.

Thursday, September 1st, 2174: In August Jeff McCutcheon swatted his way to the Rookie of the Month Award in the Continental League by putting up a .336 batting average.
