Havana's Acevedo Chosen CL Batter of the Month

Carlos Acevedo battered Continental League pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around FOOL-X long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 28-year-old Acevedo told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 24 games, Acevedo hit .394 with 11 home runs, 28 RBIs and scored 22 runs.


Portland's Jaimes Collects April Batting Honor

When Domingo Jaimes stepped up to the plate in April, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Republic League Batter of the Month award.

The young Portland shortstop posted a .420 batting average with 3 home runs, 17 RBIs and scored 17 runs. Jaimes also worked pitchers for 5 walks to post a .448 on-base percentage.

April's #1 Starter Named in CL

Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Narihira Oshima still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in April. The 33-year-old starter for Washington was named Continental League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 4 wins and no losses with 29 strikeouts in his 5 starts, putting up a fine 1.40 ERA in 38.2 innings of work.


April's Top Starter is Torres

Jorge Torres's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 4-0 in April, the 24-year-old Ann Arbor hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 28 in 38 innings, logged an ERA of 1.89 and allowed opponents to hit .241 against him.

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month

Gilbert Nelson's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Manchester third baseman has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In April he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .256 with 4 doubles, 1 triple and no home runs. Nelson also scored 8 times and drove in 8 runs.


Republic League Names Rookie of Month

Mike Loveland earned April's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish New York left fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Loveland hit .229 with 1 home run, 7 RBIs and 11 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

López Crowned Batter of the Month in May

A hot-hitting Júlio López punished CL pitchers in May, hitting .377 in 29 games while racking up 2 home runs, 17 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

With those numbers it came as no surprise that Manchester's 27-year-old right fielder earned Continental League Batter of the Month honors.

A look at his current stats shows López with a .372 average, 8 home runs, 29 RBIs and 42 runs scored. He has played in 51 games.


Skip Lucas Winner in May
Monday, June 1st, 2111
Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 31-year-old Skip Lucas put together a solid offensive month for Waikiki and was crowned May's top batter in the Republic League.

He batted .327 with 11 home runs, 23 RBIs and 23 runs scored.



This year Lucas has hit at a .295 clip with 36 RBIs, 17 home runs and 32 runs scored.

Miyazaki Earns CL's Best Pitcher Honor

Veteran Takeru Miyazaki put together quite a successful stretch in May for the Manchester Terriers, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

Miyazaki racked up a 5-0 record in 5 starts, posting a 1.38 ERA over 39 innings and striking out 32.

Thus far this season Miyazaki has posted a 8-1 record, started 9 games, struck out 56 batters in 68 innings and compiled a 2.12 ERA.


Brulhart RL Winner, Top Hurler in May

Dave Brulhart has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in May and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Naps bullpen ace collected 2 saves and 22 strikeouts in 20.1 innings, holding the opposition to a .200 average and posting a 1.77 ERA and a 5-0 record.

To date this year, he has registered 3 saves, 6 wins and 1 loss with a 2.05 ERA. Brulhart has made 25 relief appearances, worked a total of 30.2 innings and surrendered 27 hits. He has fanned 37, issued 5 free passes and held opposing clubs to a .233 batting average.

Rookie Reels In Continental League Award

Gastone Scotti is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In May the Omaha hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .339 average with 19 hits, no home runs and 8 RBIs.

Currently Scotti has no home runs and a .298 batting average.


Rookie Honored by Republic League

Youngster Mike Loveland emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from New York deserved the honor, batting .286 with 2 home runs and 13 runs batted in. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Loveland enjoy the limelight.

Loveland currently has a .260 batting average with 54 hits, 3 homers, 20 RBIs, 26 runs scored and a .277 OBP.

Omaha's López Top CL Batter in June

Gabriel López has made a definite impact on the baseball world by snatching Continental League Batter of the Month honors for June.

In 27 games the Omaha batter hit .346 with 3 home runs, 21 RBIs and 26 runs scored.

Thus far this year López is hitting .329 with 11 home runs, 60 RBIs and 69 runs scored.


Sánchez Garners RL Batter of the Month Award

Miguel Sánchez is in the final year of his contract with Waikiki and today added a timely piece of hardware to his trophy case. Playing in 27 games in June the 33-year-old left fielder ripped Republic League pitchers for a .327 batting average, nabbing him the Batter of the Month award.

He also rang up 11 home runs, 32 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

If Sánchez keeps up this pace, he'll cost someone a lot of money.

In his 2111 season totals, Sánchez has 19 home runs, .260 BA, .292 OBP, 65 RBIs and 51 runs scored.

Washington's Oshima Top Pitcher in June

When Narihira Oshima takes the hill, chances are good for a Washington victory. At least that's the way it was in May.

He excelled with a 5-0 mark and 1.00 ERA in 5 starts, tossed 36 innings, fanned 25 and held others clubs to a .206 average.

That's why the Freedom star was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Continental League.

So far this year Oshima has made 16 starts, tossed 112.2 innings, struck out 87 batters and walked 21. His record is 14-0 with a 1.52 ERA and he has limited opposing teams to a .212 batting average.


RL #1 Pitcher in June is Cleveland's Luna

Juan Luna took home the Republic League Pitcher of the Month honors in June. After all these years playing ball, the 37-year-old veteran still enjoys the game as though he'd just broken camp for the first time a month ago. He's a bit older now with a few more aches and pains, but the old man has reason to celebrate, having gone 5-0 for Cleveland last month and claiming the Pitcher of the Month award.

He tacked up a 1.93 ERA in his 7 starts, tossing 42 innings and striking out 33.

Presently Luna has a 11-2 mark in 20 starts with a 2.63 ERA. He has given up 111 hits in 119.2 innings, struck out 95 and issued 16 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .246 batting average against him.

June's Best Newcomer Named by CL

Steve Evans certainly made his presence felt in the Continental League in June. The gifted second baseman for St Louis ripped opposing pitchers for a .233 batting average and was the top votegetter for the Rookie of the Month trophy.

He won it by going 24-103 in 28 games with 2 home runs, 12 RBIs and 10 runs scored.

This season Evans is batting .213 with 5 home runs.

CL's Best Batter Selected

On the heels of a very productive July, Max Weston received Continental League Batter of the Month recognition today.

The battle-tested right fielder hit .275 for the London Bishops and racked up 10 home runs, 25 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

This year Weston has socked 113 hits in 399 at-bats for a .283 average with 25 home runs. He is getting on base at a .349 pace and his totals also include 78 RBIs and 65 runs scored.


RL's #1 Batter Chosen

Free agent-to-be José Grafals has inflated his asking price over the past 30 days by winning the Republic League Batter of the Month.

In July, the 33-year-old Spring left fielder hit .294 with 8 home runs and 21 RBIs.

If he keeps putting numbers like that up, he could be hauling in a big wad of cash at this time next year.

In his stats this season, Grafals has posted a batting average of .271 with 106 hits in 391 at-bats, 21 home runs and 56 RBIs. He has also scored 59 runs, walked 45 times and compiled a .344 OBP.

Peterson Top CL Pitcher in July

July's standout hurler was Joe Peterson of Omaha. He muzzled Continental League hitters and held them in check the entire month to capture the Pitcher of the Month award.

To win the honor Peterson compiled an impressive 4-0 mark and 1.85 ERA in 5 starts. The Bees star hurler also rung up 23 strikeouts in 34 innings.

On his stats sheet this season Peterson shows a 13-3 record, 21 starts, 143 innings, 70 strikeouts and a 2.52 ERA.


Harris Picks up RL Monthly Pitching Honor

The Republic League scribes have announced July's Pitcher of the Month and have given the award to Ronald Harris of Las Vegas. He was one tough cookie on the mound last month with a fine 3-0 mark to prove it.

The Las Vegas star made 5 starts with a 0.87 ERA and surrendered 18 hits in 31 innings. He struck out 34 and walked 7.

Thus far this season, Harris has worked 127.2 innings with 107 strikeouts en route to a 8-7 record and a 2.89 ERA.

It was an excellent month for Steve Evans. He really swung into action! The second baseman for the St Louis Hops was named July's best newcomer in the Continental League.

He captured the honor by hitting .253 with 24 hits, 4 home runs, 15 RBIs and 14 runs scored.

This season Evans is batting .222 with 9 home runs. He has scored 40 runs and driven in 42.


July's Best Rookie In a Class by Himself

First-year man Mike Loveland really swung a mean bat for the last thirty days in the Republic League and has been picked as the Rookie of the Month.

During the month he hit .225 with 10 doubles, 2 triples and 3 home runs. Loveland also scored 11 times and drove in 22 runs.

This season Loveland has hit 9 home runs and posted a .265 batting average.

Arévalo Grabs CL Best Batter Award for August

It was a good month for Omaha Bees second baseman Cris Arévalo, August's Continental League Batter of the Month.

Arévalo starred by hitting .298 with a .467 on-base percentage. He totaled 31 hits in 104 at-bats, 6 home runs, 19 RBIs and scored 25 runs.

This season Arévalo is hitting .290 with 142 hits, 19 home runs, 72 RBIs, scored 97 runs and played in 131 games.

August's Batter of the Month Award has been given out by the Republic League. This month's trophy was presented to the New York first baseman, José Costello.

Costello is hitting .359 so far this season with 75 RBIs and 84 runs scored. He has 194 hits including 9 home runs, 59 walks and .432 OBP.

August's #1 Hurler Announced: Herrera Wins Award

The best at putting a stop to late-inning rallies in the Continental League in August was Héctor Herrera of the Oshawa Mullets. For his stellar work out of the bullpen, he has been named Pitcher of the Month.

He chalked up a 4-0 record, 14 relief appearances and 8 saves with a 1.62 ERA. Herrera pitched 16.2 innings and rang up 14 strikeouts.

On the year Herrera has 31 saves in 57 relief appearances with a 7-2 record and 3.65 ERA.


Alemán RL Winner, Top Hurler in August

When Ricardo Alemán takes the mound, a Ann Arbor victory is usually the result. At least that's the way it was in August.

He excelled with a 4-0 mark and a 2.13 ERA in 6 starts, tossed 42.1 innings, fanned 31 and held opposing batters to a .197 average.

That's why the Wolverines starter was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Republic League.

This season in 26 starts Ricardo Alemán has a record of 12-7 with 141 strikeouts in 160.1 innings and a 3.70 ERA.

Gastone Scotti certainly had a lot to crow about in the Continental League in August. The rookie center fielder for Omaha tagged opposing pitchers for a .347 batting average and was the top votegetter for the Rookie of the Month trophy.

He won it by going 26-75 in 26 games with no home runs, 9 RBIs and 15 runs scored.

This season Scotti has hit at a .297 clip and produced 37 runs batted in, 1 home run and 49 runs.

Continental League Picks September's Best Batter

The Batter of the Month honoree for September in the Continental League is Omaha Bees right fielder Gabriel López.

He showed no mercy as he finished the month with a .373 batting average, 4 home runs, 31 RBIs, and 27 runs scored.

López's current batting average stands at .327 and he has chalked up 27 home runs and 139 RBIs.


Phillips Awarded September's RL Top Bat Prize

Dave Phillips used that sweet swing with great success for Portland last month, garnering him the Republic League Batter of the Month award.

The 27-year-old catcher put up a .389 batting average and collected 9 home runs, 18 RBIs and 15 runs scored.

So far this year Phillips is batting .250 with 28 home runs.

Castro Named Top CL Hurler

Luis Castro was the anchor in the London bullpen last month and snatched up the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors for September. The 32-year-old is in the prime of his career and pitching like he intends to stay around baseball for quite some time to come.

He threw 16.2 innings over 17 relief appearances and collected a 3-1 record with 19 strikeouts and 9 saves while etching his 2.70 ERA.

This year Castro has earned 25 saves, worked 94.1 innings, fanned 92 hitters and recorded a 3.15 ERA. He has also put up a 9-5 won-lost mark.

Jimmy Dukes of the Cleveland Naps is the Republic League Pitcher of the Month.
In September he sparkled and shined on the mound with 4 wins and no losses in 7 starts.

Dukes checked opposing batters on 25 base hits and a .181 batting average. He rang up 43 strikeouts in 39.1 innings of work, surrendered 13 walks and fashioned a 1.37 ERA.

To date this year in 40 starts, Dukes has crafted a 15-11 mark with a 3.08 ERA.

Evans Nabs CL Monthly Rookie Award

The Continental League made the official announcement today. The Rookie of the Month award went to Steve Evans of St Louis. He was named the best rookie in September.

Last month the 26-year-old Hops second baseman played in 28 games and hit .261 with 6 doubles, 5 triples and 2 home runs. Evans also scored 11 times and drove in 9 runs.

Thus far this year Evans is hitting .225 with 13 home runs, 64 RBIs and 60 runs scored.


September's Best Rookie Trophy Awarded

What a month for Mike Loveland! He finished it hitting .351 and took home the Republic League Rookie of the Month award.

His monthly totals included a .378 on-base percentage, 39 hits, 1 home run, 13 RBIs and 15 runs scored.

In his 2111 season totals, Loveland has 10 home runs, .293 BA, .322 OBP, 93 RBIs and 79 runs scored.

Apparently somehow my payroll was $100k over the cap. I thought I had spent every last dollar ($64,999,999) and when I had made an offer, it told me I had $1 left for FA. But it says my payroll is $65,099,999 at the end of the year.

I don't know what can/should be done, but I wasn't trying to bend/break any rules here.

On opening day when I check it it was exactly what you said. I check them after import of rosters but if they're ok then I move ahead. If it makes you feel any better you aren't the 1st team to do it. If happens rarely but it does happen. I have come to the opinion that its caused by the FA stage 3 signings.
