Big game in the NFC East between the Giants and Eagles. You have to figure the Cowboys lose at Seattle, so if the Giants can knock off Philly, a big IF, there will be a 3 way tie for first place with all 3 at 4-2. If Philly wins they get some distance between them and the Giants and Dallas.

Cincinnati is better than Carolina, and I expect them to play great coming off that loss to the Pats, but I'm still excited to see how this one actually goes on the field.

Lathum mentioned something about the Giants having a brutal schedule in the last thread.

Going back to Week 2, this is Carolina's schedule:

vs Detroit
vs Pittsburgh
@Baltimore
vs Chicago
@ Cincinnati
@ Green Bay
vs Seattle
vs New Orleans
@ Philadelphia

A couple of those teams won't make the playoffs, but only a couple I bet. I would say that the next 5 in a row starting with Cinci this week are against likely division winners (or in the case of New Orleans, hopefully Carolina/New Orleans ends up being for the division... just a weaker division than first expected :P)

Cinci is having some of their best snake bitten bad luck so far this year. Burfict has played about a game and a half, Green has been 80% most of the year, Marvin Jones has been out all year, Eifert has played a quarter, Zeitler is down for a while longer.. Jermaine Gresham sucks terribly, and the defense without Burfict is almost depressingly weak. They'll need to get creative to break even until Eifert and Zeitler come back and they probably ought to sit Green until he is over whatever has been bothering him, before it becomes a thing.

Their luck needs to change soon or it is going to be a struggle to make the playoffs, let alone get the playoff monkey off their backs.

The possibilty that the foreskins could go 1 and 15 and only get the 3rd pick is more than a negligible chance.

As horrible as these teams have been, their odds of matching the Lions 0-16 season are still pretty low. Goes to show you just how special the Detroit Lions organization really is.

I mean, hell, Kyle Orton is 5-0 against them.

Colts can dominate the division race if they win tonight.

However I'm wary that they have an away game on a Thursday night.

Quite curious to see how the Seattle/Dallas game goes. Murray has been tearing it up while the Seahawks are allowing just 62.3 yards per game (2.6 per carry).

If, and it's a huge if, they can limit Murray early and make Dallas fairly one dimensional, things should go well. If the Dallas offensive line can impose their will and keep the Cowboys offense balanced, I could see this being a 34-31 type shootout.

Here's hoping the D can start a bit of a turnover run. Only 3 so far this season so the run on those should start any week now...

I think Dallas actually matches up surprisingly well against Seattle. Their O-line is pretty big & stout. If they commit to run the ball, like they've failed to do in so many years past, they may be able to dominate this game.

But I could see this going either way including a pick 6 the other way on Romo to win it.

WTH? How did the defender actively try to avoid touching the guy on the ground on that play?

Pat McAfee I think is given free reign from the coaches to attempt onside kicks in situations where the success of an onside kick is likely (when the other team is not in onside formation and the Colts are or in situations like tonight). I believe the Colts have been lining up in onside kick formation a lot this year because McAfee is so good at getting touchbacks.

24-0 at the end of the first quarter. I'm loving it as a Colts fan but as a NFL fan I say we should cancel Thursday Night Football (or at least move it to Friday or Saturday).

Yup. All Thursday Night Football does is weaken the 4pm slate of games every week. It accomplishes nothing.

That guy is Watt-tastic.

Edit - I'm not sure if there is any defending player who is making a case for Canton right now like Watt is.

Well I probably failed a college test today, lost $800 in the stock market, but at least I didn't see the Colts choke on a 24-0 lead.

JJ Watt is making an inner circle HOF type move in his career path right now. One of the guys on Grantland NFL Podcast talked about how Watt would score 5TDs this year kind of joking. He's already got 3 which is crazy. Too bad the shitty Texans have wasted stage 1 of his career with shitty ass QBs.

Seriously?

J.J. Watt has been in the league for 4 years, and his first year was mediocre in every sense of the word. No fumbles forced, 5.5 sacks, 48 tackles. Now, I'm not discounting that he's playing at a very high level right now, but let's not start sucking the guys dick over a phenomenal second year and a strong start to his fourth year.

Julius Thomas is fined $8k for an illegal chop block during a Week 5 game, and Colin Kaepernick is fined $10k for wearing pink headphones during a press conference in support of Breast Cancer awareness month.

What the hell is wrong with this league?

I agree, it's pretty stupid. But he wasn't fined for wearing pink headphones, he was fined for wearing Beats by Dre when the league has an exclusive contract with Bose. He can wear his headphones outside the NFL all he wants and do commercials, but if he's at an NFL function it's Bose or nothing.

But yeah, stupid that protecting Bose is more important than protecting the health of their players.

But uniform violations have been a thing for at least a decade and all the players know about it. I'd guess Kaep knew exactly what he was doing, and Beats pays for the fine and sees all the publicity as a good investment.

And Willis is very good, but at no point in his career has he ben the best player in the league at his position. Watt has been for 2.5 solid years right now. I'd even argue that he is the best defensive player in the game right now, something Im not sure Willis cacks the Top 10 for.

If you dont think he is playing like a future HOFer right now you simply are biased against him. He has to continue it for sure. If he gets hrut tomorrow and never plays another down, no, he isnt a HOFer. But I dont think anyone is on a better projection path towards HOF right now amongst current defenders.

That's why I used the words "Right now" in my sentence. Meaning, you know, right now. Not over the last X years. Right now means right now.

I just can't get on-board with throwing out "Canton" for any player who isn't even in their 5th year.

Seriously guys. David Boston just called and told you to get a grip.

I'd say there was a solid three to four year stretch where he was the best LB in the league. He only gave up the title when teammate Bowman surpassed him.

Yeah. Pretty much this. I believe "First Team All-Pro" kind of signifies he was considered the best at his position in the NFL. He has 5 of those. So, yeah.

Puff, puff, pass.

thx

Willis is a stud. He's going to the Hall of Fame. The statement wasn't first ballot though. It was inner circle. It also stated "Making a move"

Look, forget position. . . I think you could make a case that JJ Watt has been the best player in the entire league in 2012, 2013 and 2014. In my mind, he's clearly the best defensive player and nobody else really comes in at a close second. (This is with apologies to some damned good football players. Von Miller at his peak, Bowman, Willis, Richard Sherman. (I just cried typing that last name by the way)

Of course, anything can happen. Injury. Drugs. Punching a women in an elevator. Sudden loss of effectiveness. All of that. If he became a league average player starting next year and accumulated another 5 years, is he in the hall? Easily. This is a generational player and there is nothing wrong stating it right now.

We should all be appreciating Willis as well, though I don't think he was the best LB on his own team last year. He's one of my single favorite players in the game and I'll watch the Niners just to see him. I think JJ Watt right now is better than Willis has ever been. Just my opinion
