I'm not sure about the UFC weigh division seperation:

This will probably seem like nitpicking, but I think I'd prefer the divisions to change a bit in the weight seperation.

205, 190, 175
or
205, 190, 180, 165

the main reason is that I feel like 175 or 180 is way more natural than choosing 185 or 170 ...I think if you're 170 as late teenager, you're going to be 175-180 in your 20s w/ training. I don't think this will make sense to a lot of people because it's not a lot of weight difference - but the reason I bring it up is because of the size of the average man.
I am pretty spot on average size for an adult male at 5'11" and about 184lbs in pretty good shape. If I was mma training 175 would probably be perfect, but 170 seems like a little too far - a bit unhealthy - on the other hand 185 seems a bit too heavy especially factoring in all the guys weight cutting to get there.

I just think that the biggest percentile of people in 'fighting shape' would fall at or around 175 and 180. I also think that slightly changing the divisions like that would decrease the amount of weight cutting that goes on if only a little bit.

Even the guys at 185, I bet would be more comfortable at 190 -

I just feel that there is this big unecessary game of weight cutting right before a fight, only to re-hydrate the night before - we might see better fights if this didn't go on, because it can't be good for you...and since both guys usually put on some weight the time of fight, usually they're weighing the same anyway!

thoughts?

I see your points, but IMO guys will always end up cutting lots of weight prior to a fight...if you change the weight classes then they'll just weigh more prior to the fight and still have to cut 15 lbs...it's just the boxing/wrestling/mma culture.

I guess, but it would be cool if there was stats gathered from all significant fighters of how much they weigh when they are training at their best to see how much they weigh 'naturally'

I'd also like to know who doesn't 'cut weight' - I know there are for sure a few and it would also be interesting to see who cuts the most. When Franklin was fighting middleweight I know he cut close to 20lbs regularly.

just for clairity I'm talking about guys who do this for weighins (rapid weight loss), not moving up and down classes.
