recruiting question

Going to start an dynasty with one of the service academies and was wondering how everyone handled the height/weight restrictions they have. I looked at the charts but it seems almost impossible to limit yourself to those because the game doesn't really offer 240lbs linemen and so on.

I am thinking about doing the BMI test and not recruit anyone who doesn't fall into the normal or lower BMI.

Just looking for some feed back is all, thanks.

Re: recruiting question

Navy has actually been pretty relaxed recently with the weight restrictions. Technically, the heaviest you can be is 271, and that's IF you're 7'2.

Navy currently has four players over 300lbs, 16 over 280.

Army has been less lax then Navy, but they do have a good bit of lineman over 260 (14 players). None over 300lbs but one at 293.

Air Force would be your biggest challenge. They have offensive lineman ranging from 225 to 280 and defensive lineman from 240 to 260.

You can also pretend to use their weight waivers if you do need to sign someone too big.

Re: recruiting question

Someone posted in one of these "service academy weight restriction" threads (there's been a lot of them) that the academy restrictions are for when they graduate, so they can be lax while they're playing football, just as long as they meet their weight when they graduate.

If that's true, then you could be more lax than what the charts say.

Re: recruiting question

To add to what has been said, I think a lot of service academies allow their players to be a little heavier during the playing season.

For all intents and purposes you could try and impose your own weight restrictions though. Maybe something like, no offensive linemen over 280 lbs., no defensive ends over 250 lbs., and no defensive tackles over 270 lbs. Just to add a little bit of a challenge

Re: recruiting question

USAFA doesn't restrict height and weight any longer. Though for pilots, which 50% of the Academy attend flight school there are some limitations.

The only main requirement is for a person wishing to attend flight school that they manage their weight down following their athletic career. The academy has professional dietitians on staff to aid students needing to drop weight.
