help choosing a year

hey everyone I am a casual hockey fan that will watch the occasional wild game, and have figured that I want a hockey game for fun! now I dont have much intrest in the be a pro and ultimate team, but would be willing to try the dynasty despite my lack of knowing about how the dynasties work.
I mostly like the gameplay of the game, but again a casual fan so hesitant about spending more on the most current game.

what year would everyone reccomend for me?
thanks

I would try NHL 10. It's pretty cheap and it's the one I had the most fun with. There are lots of good young players in drafts on there and since you're not going to criticize every small thing you should enjoy it. There isn't a huge step up from 10 to 12 for the casual fan. I'd just stay away from 11.

Thanks cletus, love the name by the way, and what is wrong with 11?

I would took Ice Hockey on NESN.

It was simple, no "fla fla" and glitch goals! :-)

At least, that was a game we enjoy playing since we didn't expect more from it.

I just didn't enjoy it as much. There aren't any super huge flaws that I remember. I know young players didn't progress enough for my liking. I just had more fun and if you're tight on money nhl 11 is not worth the difference. If you're not strapped for cash I would go ahead and get nhl 12, just don't download the tuner sets. If you find the slider set for you, it is also a fun game.

I would go with 11 personally. With all the tuners and patches in place, it played as the best the series has played in my opinion. Not perfect, but good enough for someone who isn't a hockey diehard.

I'd agree, it was the pinnacle of the series. I can't remember off hand but wasn't 11 the first year we had authentic puck size? Pretty sure it was.

That made a big difference for me and makes it much better than 10, in my book. It's impossible to go back to the big puck that used to be standard.

Also, NHL 11 introduced the CHL, so you have all the junior sides to play with.

The only downgrade was that 11 lost a few center-ice licenses, so 3 or 4 arenas look a little bare without the arena name.

NHL 11 was an improvement on 10 as 12 was a downwards turn on 11.
