The first one is up at IGN, pretty fair overall I thought.

Re: PES 2014 Reviews

Similarly, the commentary is a touch repetitive and sometimes at odds with the action; it’s weird how often seasoned pundit Jim Beglin is astonished by the most mundane goals – he exclaims “It’s gone in!” after every other goal, it seems.

Ha-ha! This made me laugh, PES' commentary truly is weird and other-worldly at times. Definitely "pretty fair" of the reviewer to describe the commentary as a touch repetitive, rather than tell it like it really is.

Re: PES 2014 Reviews

It's true they need a tremendous overhaul with Beglin's lines.

The menus are not the best, but we are talking about menus??? Anyway lol.

I like the game on the pitch. That is why I support this product year in and year out. It isn't perfect of course but in terms of replicating the nuances of an actual sport this game wins the belt. The Show finishes right behind it.

Pretty goofy what these reviewers focus on. A meaningful review would include the first dozen or so paragraphs devoted to breaking down the gameplay. Instead we get a write-up on menus and graphics and such.

Well this comment of his explains it all:

PES 2014 is an odd beast, a strange hybrid of its straightforward arcade roots and the ever-growing complexity of the FIFA series.

Uh... that's exactly backwards fella. Some little FIFA fanboy got himself a job as a reviewer, yippee!

You know it's odd, a lot of times I have a hard time believing that some of these reviewers actually played a sport, any sport in their lives, or that they're not a fan of the sport that they're reviewing. Most times with video game reviews it doesn't matter, but with sports games it's different, you kinda need to know about the real game in order to give a fair assessment. Because of that I tend to take what most of these guys say with a grain of salt. I mean OK I get it, the commentary, the menus and even master league(from what I've seen) seem horribly dated, but on the pitch I thought at least PES was a pretty good game, maybe not MY first choice, but absolutely a viable one for someone else. Maybe he had some sort of agenda, who knows but a 6.0 seemed pretty harsh. I know this has nothing really to do with your comment Yeats but it just got me thinking. In the end it's just one guy's opinion and you know what they say about opinions.

Best review from Eurogamer as usual; puts Gamespot's Karaoki-singing falafel eater to shame:
