Is using the power swing cheap?
I play as the Twins. They have a few guys with some decent power. When they are up and I have a favorable count, I tend to push up and wait for a strike to hit using the power swing. I was wondering if this is cheap or not. The way I see it is, players can go for contact or power in real life, so why not the game? I just wonder if the power swing is too powerful in the game. I've hit a ton of home runs, but never hit one more than 460 feet, so that seems very realistic. If I was hitting 490 foot bombs on a regular basis I'd really worry. I hit 5 home runs at Fenway in my last game. 15mph blowing to right, and I have several left handed power hitters. It was a perfect situation. Thome even hit a 430 foot bomb to dead center, which is pretty hard to do. Anyways, do you guys use the power swing with your power guys, or is it kinda cheap to you just like guess pitch is? I never use power swing with contact guys like Hardy, Hudson or Span. One good thing I've noticed that makes it fair is if you use power swing and are off even a little bit, you will get very weak contact so it kinda evens it out. Not being able to check swing also helps even it out.51Yes it's cheap0%3Not cheap0%48Tags: None -

Re: Is using the power swing cheap?
I have never hit a home run with power swing. Rather, I tend to hit strong line drives, but never get any loft to balls. I also play with swing influence off.Comment

Re: Is using the power swing cheap?
I think it might actually be the opposite. From what I've been told, the majority of the time someone hits a home run they were just trying to drive the ball and make solid contact. Guys like Vlad, Ortiz and other power hitters do swing for the fences a lot, though.Comment

Re: Is using the power swing cheap?
In certain situations i do used the power swing.. for example if i have Mark Reynolds or Justin Upton up with a 3-1 count, men on base, and i'm behind in the score, i will surely be swinging for the fences.. so yes in certain counts/situations, i will power up lolComment

Re: Is using the power swing cheap?
I personally never use the power swing and get plenty of homeruns. I don't think it's cheap, I just never had much luck with it when I did try it.
It's also harder, if not impossible to check swing with it I think.Comment

Re: Is using the power swing cheap?
In my last game I had the bases loaded and Thome was up with a 3-1 count. My gf was sitting on the couch and I said "I guarantee this is a home run if it's a strike." Sure enough I got one down the middle and took it out with a power swing. Thome has some of the best power in the game, but I think the odds of hitting a home run with a guy like him + power swing + 2-0 or 3-1 count are very high. I may stop using power swing unless I am down in the late innings. Hitting a home run without power swing is rewarding, but hitting power swing home runs on meatballs has kinda taken the thrill for me. I hit 5 hr last game. One of my guys (Kubel) missed his 3rd home run of the game by maybe 1 foot as it hit off the top of the wall and bounced around for a double. Using the power swing on a 0-0 count is tough, since I go up there looking to swing when I have power swing on and can't check my swing. I think using power swing + UP on the controller is HUGE, though. Power swing without influencing up on the controller gave me a lot of hard line outs.Comment

Re: Is using the power swing cheap?
A lot of the times when i hit HR's I look at the swing analysis and it says Meatball and Perfect so I think it's more about making solid contact and not using the power swing. Although with power hitters, if I do guess the pitch and location a lot of the times I will hold right analog stick up to influence fly ball so maybe that helps a bit.Minnesota Gophers - Minnesota Vikings - Minnesota Twins -

Re: Is using the power swing cheap?
Power is the dominate force that drives user hitting, so why wouldn't you use the power swing? It's easier to hit with low contact/high power guys than high contact/low power guys.Comment

Re: Is using the power swing cheap?
I agree, but there should be a balance. Low contact players should pop up more, which I don't see in '10 like I did in '09.Comment

Re: Is using the power swing cheap?
Oh yea, I remember this. I didn't believe it at the time because I didn't really get into '10 much. It wasn't like this is '09 though. The Power swing use to cause more popups and grounders, to the point people didn't even use it.I made a topic about it awhile back. There needs to be a 3rd major batting attribute.
I guess they thought they had to fix it, and now imo is a lil too powerful.Comment
