Re: Is using the power swing cheap?
It's not cheap.
You're not supposed to hold the stick up or down for swing influence. All you have to do is tap the stick up or down.
I agree.Comment

Re: Is using the power swing cheap?
It really all depends on the difficulty and slider settings. A lot of people on here assume and think they are comparing apples to apples. This game is so customizable that you have to realize: even if it is easy to hit homeruns in a favorable count for you, that doesn't mean the power swing is overpowered. I play on a high difficulty level and lowered user hitting sliders and if I use the power swing if it is anywhere but down the middle I usually just hit a foul tip. So, just because it might be easy for some of you to use power swing and hit a homerun doesn't mean it is necessarily cheap. Maybe what's cheap is the difficulty/sliders that some of you are playing on where you can basically guarantee a homerun with certain hitters in certain counts. I only use it when my PCI is lined up right on the ball and it is pretty close to the middle. Otherwise, I use the normal swing 97% of the time.Comment

Re: Is using the power swing cheap?
There is no reason to NOT use the power swing as you're main swing unless you're not using the left stick, which I don't understand why you wouldn't use the left stick either. Therefore, use the power swing. It really all depends on the difficulty and slider settings. A lot of people on here assume and think they are comparing apples to apples. Re: Is using the power swing cheap?
I do use the left stick. My PCI will be all over the pitch and I will have "perfect" timing and foul the ball of if it's a well located strike. This isn't always the case... but most of the time it is. I find it incredibly realistic because most well located pitches will not be hit well if you are swinging for the fences.
And I don't think you got the point of my post. Just because you always use the power swing as your primary doesn't mean it will work on all difficulty levels/slider settings for all people.
In short, my answer to the OP was that it depends on how you play the game. There is no defined yes or no on whether or not it is cheap. Not everything is black and white. So while you may "not understand why I don't use the power swing as my primary swing," I do understand. So OP, get a feel for the game, change difficulty, and change sliders until you get a gaming experience that most closely resembles you expectations.Comment

Re: Is using the power swing cheap?
I don't find the use of Power swing, back in my earlier years of playing the MLB series I used to use the power swing but that was because I was young and would do anything to hit a homerun every time
but even with that I use to swing and miss or pop up every time using the power swing.
I don't even press the square button to hit because it's no use, you can hit hit a homer with the X button with good contact and good timing.
The power button for me just makes the game feel very arcade [MY OPINION].Comment

Re: Is using the power swing cheap?
I've never used it, I wouldn't call it cheap but I never saw the need. I get plenty of homeruns without using it. Besides major league hitters will tell you if you try to hit homeruns it hurts more than it helps.Comment

Re: Is using the power swing cheap?
Not overpowered, imo. It's risk-reward.
You have to commit fully and a little more quickly than with a contact swing; there's no checking.
If you're off on location or timing, you have a pretty high chance of hitting a weak dribbler or popping up.
That said, connecting on a 2-0 fastball and launching a no-doubter is an amazing feeling.Comment

Re: Is using the power swing cheap?
I play on Legend with very low hitting sliders, and I rarely foul it off if I am on the pitch. My friend who plays casually on Veteran when we hang out was struggling at RTTS and I told him to use the power swing. Now, he's hitting over .300. The most important thing that determines if you get a hit based on hitter attributes is power. So, why wouldn't you want to increase the one attribute that actually matters? The power swing trumps the contact swing in every possible way if you just wait a pitch in a hot zone. Then, if you get 2 strikes, use the contact swing.I do use the left stick. My PCI will be all over the pitch and I will have "perfect" timing and foul the ball of if it's a well located strike. This isn't always the case... but most of the time it is. Re: Is using the power swing cheap?
In a game @ Philadelphia, I was really desperate to get the lead after making a horrible error in the previous inning that got me in a 1-run deficit. I would up getting two runners on base with Aramis Ramirez up to bat. Normally I *never* use power swing, but because I was desperate, I worked the count to 2-0 and used the power swing. I wound up drilling a BOMB deep to left field at CBP. It landed halfway up the upper deck out there. I did feel a little cheap afterwards, I must admit.Comment
