Coming back after long madden lay off

Hey guys. I haven't played madden in many years. Recently began playing PS again after a long lay off and am enjoying getting back into the games I played when I was in my teens.

Now I pre ordered madden. How difficult is the learned curve as compared to 6-7 years ago? Will I be able to jump right back in or will I be lost for months? Not a huge gamer so I don't sit there for hours and hours. Just like playing for fun and want to get into online leagues. Let me know what you think and if there's tricks to getting back into it quickly.

I love football so to me it depends on your understanding of the game. Besides the passing icons for aggressive, run after, and possession catches, it's the same game play. With the new upgrades to 17 idk, I'm expecting more.

Understanding of the game is never going to be the problem. That I know real well. It's the playing of the game. If the game play isn't that different that makes me feel better.

Re: Coming back after long madden lay off

You probably won't recognize how defense plays out if the last Madden you played was Madden 08-09, especially this year. It might take you some getting used to the new coverages.

That said, the game does include a comprehensive tutorial mode, Skills Trainer, which will get you up to speed on the real-world NFL concepts in the game.

In terms of just pure mechanics and controls? At surface level, not much has changed; you still use face buttons to pass, along with the right thumb stick and face buttons to do ballcarrier tackle-breaking moves. There are new controls for controlling how you pass, with high, low, and touch passes in addition to leading passes with the left stick. There are also new controls for catching passes and defending passes which you'll need to learn, and defensive line moves are now mapped to buttons rather than the right stick. But from a controls standpoint it should mostly be familiar.
