On option-routes AWR is used to determine whether the WR/TE/RB makes the correct decision based on the coverage.

Also, AWR affects whether or not the WR/TE/RB sits in an open area after the play breaks down.

Thanks for all the insight. It seems that awareness doesn't REALLY affect much in the area of actual on the field performance. Like Greencollar said, all it seems to really affect is the actual overall. I drafted a TE and WR that have excellent ratings but 20s in overall, so they are both in their 60s. I'm sure if the Awareness was in the 70s range, they'd be in the 80s, easily.

Something I learned from D. Moore that I didn't know... awareness means very little to nothing on defense, play recognition is awareness on defense

It also affects whether the player turns around when you throw the ball to them and how long before their icon turns solid.

Re: What does the awareness rating in Madden 13 affect in certain positions?

Well I didn't see many answers here so I decided to test my self. Made two exact WR's same stats, size everything except one had 50 awareness the other had 99. Thee 99 awareness guy has does better every time. I was throwing different routes to them, switching them from 1/2 WR so they'd get lined up against a different corner and the 99 awareness guy made more catches, dropped less passes, got open more, scored more tds, and the qb threw more accurately to him. So maybe awareness lets players only play to a certain level of there skills. But I honestly have no clue, it does something though.

AWR affect so many things because it is actually how well the CPU controls the player, and the only time it is useless is when the user is directly controlling that player in a game.

AWR 99 is as good as the AI can control the player, and low AWR players will not react quickly to things going on around them.

I am surprised that so many Madden gamers think AWR means little more than calculating OVR.

On WRs I consider AWR and CTH the two primary skills, with CIT and RTE being the second tier of skills.
