Randy Couture Retiring?

Just watching Sportsnet right now and seen it on the ticker. Take it for what it's worth for now. I'll try to find a link.

EDIT: Ok, just Google'd it. Here's what I found. Apparently he tweeted this:

Not sure whether or not this means he's doing 1 more fight or if he's packing it all in now. Sad either way. I figured he still had another year of fights left in him.

Re: Randy Couture Retiring?

Yeah, he made some comments on his facebook page about this being the end, here is the quote...
Quote:
"Appreciate everyone commenting on my fights . I didn't get the memo that they were being shown I think I'm at the end of it ! It's time to move on and focus on all the other amazing things going on in my life ! It's time . Thanks R"

Pretty strange he'd retire this way. IMO he should at least do one more fight as a "goodbye" to the sport and the fans.

I wouldnt mind seeing him beat up on Tito one more time but other then that I dont see any compelling matchups for him anymore.

Re: Randy Couture Retiring?

He might as well be retired though considering hes apparently only willing to fight either Shogun or Machida, and quite frankly neither fight makes a bit of sense. Randy himself has said that hes not interested in another title run at this stage of his career so why have him fight guys who are when nothing good can come of it? Say he fights Machida and Machida wins, it doesnt really move him along in the division and if he loses then suddenly hes way further down the ladder in the division. Fighting Shogun makes even less sense considering he hasnt earned a title shot by beating up on guys like James Toney. To be honest it sounds like Randy is being difficult and should just retire at this point.

Re: Randy Couture Retiring?

I say they just give him Nog or someone like that and have that be his retirement fight.

But hes already fought and lost a decision to Nog, it was a great fight but he lost so I dont see the draw there anymore. The reports I read said that Randy had turned down 2 potential fights already and only wants to fight either Machida or Shogun, in fact one of the fights he turned down was a fight with Rampage. IMO, Couture is just being difficult in an attempt to get his way, I say just cut him loose if he isnt going to fight anyone outside of Machida or Shogun and move on, its not like Randy has fought anyone of substance since he beat Brandon Vera a year ago.

Side note, completely unrelated, but Rampage is on Dr. Phil right now for some strange reason, no idea the context of his appearance but hes on there apparently.
