****loads of cardio, eating right... I'm sure there are unhealthy means that can get you there (wrestlers and boxers cut 10 lbs. of weight in a few hours if they need to, but it's all water weight). It might not be realistic to say "10 pounds per month", but you can probably lose a good deal at first and then you'll likely plateau at your ideal weight...

by eating right, it would mean cutting down on sweets

no soda,
intake less calories than you burn each day

Don't drink anything except water. That can make a big difference just by itself.

You have to have a deficit of 3500 of calories to lose one pound of body fat.

So, let's say you are a "normal" human being and you use 2,000 calories just by living. So you would need to workout and watch what you eat to use the 2,000 calories plus the calories burnt in workingout.

So you would need to have a calorie deficit of 35,000 a month to lose 10 LB's of fat. However, you might possibly weigh more than you started if you are exercising and building your muscle weight.

Re: Is it possible to lose 10lbs a month?

It takes roughly the burning of 3,500 calories to lose one pound, so 35,000 calories would mean 10 pounds. This means over the course of a 30 day month, you would have to consume 1,166 fewer calories PER DAY than you currently do (assuming you are currently maintaining your weight).

I would recommend setting up a profile at thedailyplate.com or another site in which you can count both your calorie intake as well as how many you are burning per day based on your activities.

The site is very user friendly and has a pretty wide database of foods from most restaurants as well as foods you would buy at the grocery store.

When you set up a profile, you enter your weight, your goal and the time frame in which you hope to lose your weight. It will calculate a reccomended calorie alotment per day to help you meet your goal.

Through out the day you add your meals as well as your activites and you will always know where you stand.

I think the biggest problem most people have is just portion control. A regular portioned meal typically won't hurt you, but when you go back for seconds and thirds or when you get the Supersize french fry instead of the medium, you just end up hurting yourself....it may be hard at first if you are used to eating large meals, but if you can slowly reduce your portion sizes until you eventually get close to the reccomended serving sizes, you will put yourself in a much better position.
