Can’t argue with that, but I will say that offline at least has access to sliders and roster changes to try to fix the flaws, even if the don’t get you all the way there. Online is entirely reliant...

That is pretty much what I am seeing. The things that needed to be fixed for offline play were mostly fixed, to the detriment of online play. You used to be able to make really good hockey plays...

I should also note this patch completely failed to fix the only thing that has actually been wrong with the game, the network/server connection error issues that crop up every single time I play.

For some reason, the team specific playbook setting is no longer working. I jumped into an online game after the patch installed with my custom offensive playbook and team specific defensive playbook...
