Live Gold required for Roster Update?

Just looking for confirmation that an XBOX live gold account is required to download the latest roster file through Madden 12. I see that there is a way to download the file independent of the game and upload via USB drive, however do those roster updates contain newly added player profile pictures?

I guess what I'm asking is, will is miss out of anything (roster-wise) buy going the USB route rather than downloading it directly from xbox live?

I was surprised by this last year also, but truthfully you ARE able to download the roster updates without having a GOLD account! I always had the free silver account, and I was worried about this too. You can go to the madden online portion of the game, and then you can download the latest roster update for offline use. It's only once you try and play a match online, when it tells you that you don't have the required level account to enjoy playing online or w/e the message says. Hope this helps, as it would save so much time!

and no if you do the usb update you aren't losing anything as its the same file ea puts out and people with gold download

u need gold for rosters this year

you no longer need xbox live gold to download. the xbox live silver membership should work again. i was able to access the depth chart and roster download sections yesterday after the patch.

Can anyone confirm this.

I tried downloading after the patch and was prompted to download but I didnt actually go thorugh with it. IIRC, before, you weren't even prompted to download, it just said you didn't have enough priveladge or something like that.
