Collections???

So i have been looking at collections, and have a few questions. Do you need to have a diamond player to complete the collection? If so.....wow some of them could cost a lot. Also are the cards locked into the collection? So do you lose them?
I really can't find any clear instruction on collections.

Some do require the diamond card for the collection but most don't. One's you complete a collection and acquire the legend reward card any and all cards in that collection cannot be sold. They can however be feed to you're Dd player

You only need to collect the cards of players that have a lower overall rating than the reward player. So, for example, the Blue Jays reward player is Joe Carter at 85 overall -- you don't need to collect Jose Bautista(89), Josh Donaldson(89), Jose Reyes(88), or Edwin Encarnacion(86). The Red Sox have Ted Williams at 99 as the reward so you need to collect all the other players to complete the collection

Ok makes more sense now. So after you complete the collection you cannot sell the legend? That seems a little weird. I am half way through the Angels, and 4 more cards for the Braves. I would really like to get Lofton and Brett though.
