Newb Madden 17 Question

I have searched a lot online for this and cannot get a definitive answer. I havent had a next gen console or played Madden for years, but looking to make a purchase this weekend possibly.

Does the game allow you to do an " old school" season mode? For example, if I picked the Patriots and want to play a season does my team automatically have a current roster ( Brady, Gronk, etc) or do I have to start the season with lesser players and buy cards, packs etc and eventually gather the players I want. I am basically only looking to play season games offline. I know there in Franchise mode, but cannot find if that starts with active rosters

Yes. When you start your franchise you have the option of choosing the current roster or preseason roster. The current roster will be with all the updates made during the season so essentially you will be starting with the end of season roster. Mut is the mode that has card packs and such. You can also start with a downloaded roster.
