Trouble Changing E-mail

I would like to change my E-mail address but cannot do to the fact it says it is in use. I just now remembered that when I originally tried to sign up for the site, even though I'd click on the button to get a confirmation E-mail to activate it, it would never come and I'd get an error screen. I ended up using a secondary e-mail and it worked. The other profile has never been used and to my knowledge was never activated to post. Is their anyway I can get the other profile deleted or something to free up my e-mail?

I know the rule against having 2 profiles but since that one could not be activated, I moved on to this one and have not touched the other.

Was that comcast by chance? I had the same sort of problem registering and eventually sent an email and one of the admins (Millennium as it turns out) manually activated my account and said that they have some problems with comcast email accounts that is on comcasts end.
