Frozen Endzone Targets Steam's Greenlight Service Stuck
Posted on March 15, 2013 at 11:40 PM.
Earlier today, independent developer Mode 7 announced its plans to bring turn-based gameplay to a futuristic gridiron project named Frozen Endzone.

Gameplay consists of two robot teams pre-planning their movement across randomly generated terrain, with the red defensive forces trying to prevent the blue offensive side from reaching the end zone. After the inital planning phase, the robot AI simultaneously executes each side's drawn-up play, without any user input or direct user control.

Frozen Endzone is currently in the Alpha stage and "will ship in 2014," according to the developer. A beta will "almost certainly" be available later this year, with a planned launch on PC, Mac and Linux. Mode 7 has indicated that other platforms may be added in the future.

Mode 7 is releasing the game through Steam's Greenlight service, which uses a fan voting system to decide whether or not games get released. Vote for Frozen Endzone on Steam to help the project get greenlit.

Frozen Endzone's tentative feature list includes:
  • Full single player (Skirmish and Season) and multiplayer (various modes)
  • Unique simultaneous-turn-based gameplay
  • Randomly-generated situations and terrain
  • Selection of teams and stadiums; customization options
  • Expressive art style and high-quality animation
  • Trance and electronica soundtrack by nervous_testpilot
Mode 7's previous strategy game, 2011's Frozen Synapse, was a critical hit on the PC, earning an 85 metacritic rating. Financially, Frozen Synapse was just as impressive, selling over 400,000 copies and counting.

Frozen Synapse is killer, I have high hopes for Frozen Endzone. If they make an engaging story mode/season/tournament/whatever i'll be all over it, since I prefer single player for most games I play. That said, you already know this is going to kick *** on multiplayer if you've ever player Frozen Synapse!

My only gripe about it was the last clip when they scored the touchdown, the orange robot didn't make an attempt to tackle, and he kinda went away from the ball carrier. I say clean it up & make him more aware of what to do. Other than that, this game looks great, graphically, and with physics. It has alot of promise.
