Madden NFL 17 Equipment Upgrades - Helmets, Facemasks, Gloves, Cleats & More

A lot of you have been waiting for the Madden NFL 17 team to show off the equipment upgrades this year. Today is the day! The team has added a few helmets and updated some others. They have also brought in new facemasks and updated some more. New gloves, cleats and other accessories were also added this year. Check out the list below and the full blog here.

New Accessories
  • One-Arm Sleeves - These will be set on each player that wears this style via the default roster so the players in Madden will match their real-world counterparts; these sleeves can also be customized when editing and creating players.
  • Updated Wrist-Tape Options - Black, Team Primary Color and Team Secondary Colored Wrist-Tape
  • Updated the Ankle-Tape options and re-named them to 'Half-Spat' and 'Full-Spat'
  • All the new sleeves, gloves and shoes are set-up for color-swapping to match each team’s primary and secondary colors, as well as black and white.

Those are also newer cleats which have a different color way so.....

Are these cleats in madden 17 the new colorway for certain teams? If so then my apologies. If the pats and Dolphins are wearing those, then kudos to you guys for staying ahead of the game. I'm just going by 2015 footage of those styles.

Some gloves and shoes won't be perfect for all players on all teams, it's a concession we had to make unfortunately

I heard your pod cast... Very good piece... I appreciate your passion ,as I am kind of the same way. It's good to know there is someone like me at EA... I'm def looking forward to this years editing of players and equipment. I've always spent hours setting up my team with the right equipment and the task has always been an enjoyable part of the game.

Great job on the equipment, heard he interview and wished you would've got the Epic in too but I get what you are saying.

I wanted to ask since the equipment are scan in now will it not seem to be pixelated anymore during gameplay. Also how were equipment put into the game prior to the 3D scan tech. Thanks

Don't know if it was answered , but did added faces get scanned in with long hair for Caucasian players.

While a lot of ya'll are saying the Color ways are wrong for some teams you also seemed to be forgetting that there are player who do wear the Primary/Secondary cleats on the teams you are mentioning. Personally I'm glad we finally have the Primary/secondary cleats maybe in the future we can get them like in NCAA14 With White/Team Color and Black/Team color where the cleats were mostly white or black with team color accents. But for now I'm happy with what they managed to get now. Its a step or two in the right direction and hopefully EA will continue to work on improving equipment and the actual uniforms in the future.

I assumed all color combos ( prim/sec, sec/prim, prim/white, sec/white etc.) were available for cleats. Am I wrong? I hope in the future as many combos are available as possible and do not get removed or disregarded because of inaccuracy. Options options options..

Profile pic has him wearing Riddell, pic might be from 15. I checked on 16 and the Riddell bulges at the ear holes where the Wilson does not. You're right that Staubach once wore a Riddell TK, but then he switched to Maxpro. I have a lot of players on my historic roster wearing Wilson also. Gives it a lot of diversity when you have that option along with Riddell TK. Also, in 16, different player heads filled/fit the Riddell and Wilson helmets differently from player to player, so I used what looked best in some cases. Any help is appreciated Thanks.

I don't know if it was Madden or NCAA, but there was a game with the option to only wear sleeves in cold weather. That's what I want, an always/never/cold weather option for sleeves

What are you talking about? If you mean the fact that they took the time to add tons of authentic equipment, that was sorely needed. It add so much authenticity to the game.

Nope, I'm not a equipment person, but it adds to the immersion of the game, so, glad it's been updated.

And some people won't really give a hoot about your opinion, either.

I think it varies depending on the cleats the player is wearing . I believe it's the only way they could mismatch colors without having the entire team wearing the same colors if that makes sense.
