FBCB: AD Expectations

It's often commented on that some ADs seem to have inordinately high expectations for a coach that are hard to meet. I've been fired at high profile schools for doing a good but not great job. I have to wonder though, what kind of expectations this coach's AD must have. How can he still have a job?

Another question....how was he coach of the year with a 11-17 record? Are the independents THAT bad?

Actually, if they are that bad, then that would be why he still has a job...they are doing well for the level they're at.

Yeah, why 2017 and not 2019, his only .500 season?

Dola - Lol, I actually checked the G-W team and the coach's AD is currently delighted by his performance! Why can't I get these guys? Three straight seasons with 6 or fewer wins and they're crowing for more!

I think the AD expectations vary wildly (which is IMO good). It sometimes makes it too hard when you take over a team, but that is often realistic.

Maybe they're trying to get publicity by having the first winless and/or first 30 loss seasons.

The Independents are pretty horrible, actually. But most of them have coach turnover. IPFW's AD is currently delighted by their coach, who has a grand total of 10 wins in 4 seasons. I know that bad teams shouldn't have high expectations, but almost any schmoe off the street could coach better than these guys.

I'm surprised they haven't canned him. Maybe since there's no conference title to compete for, the expectations of competing for a conference title doesn't come into play and the AD is satisfied otherwise.

I know in one of my careers I took over at Purdue and the AD expected me to compete for the conference championship. Having checked the team's roster and comparing them to my La Tech roster I knew there was no way I could accomplish such a goal. Well two years later I was fired from Purdue and La Tech was 62-4 over those two seasons.

I think a lot of it has to do with your team's prestige compared to others in the conference.

Well, if his expectation was "avoid finishing last" most of the time, then it makes sense. I'll bet they didn't finish last among the Indies more than 5 or 6 times.

Probably a bit late to ask this, but what exactly is 'AD' anyways?

FBCB term, I'm guessing?

Why do we have to pick on "G-Dubb"?? Maybe there should be a patch that updates the conferences and puts GWU in the Atlantic Sun. Hopefully, we can then use another school to pick (like Morris Brown).

Other than my obvious favortisim, I do agree whole-heartedly that the Independents bite, and have no chance of upward mobility.

I'm getting the bug to purchase this game.

Is it possible when determining whether or not to accept a job at a school to check that school's hiring and firing history versus their season results? Because I agree with the above poster that stated that the wildly divergent AD expectations are a good thing, but only if I am able to know beforehand that I'm about to go to work for a hardass versus a softie.

I think you can changes conferences around with the editors in the tools menu. Not positive, though.

Well, I wouldn't say NO chance.

Congrats Skydog, it only took you 36 years!

Huckleberry - You can check out the info on the team that wants to hire you and usually see what kind of expectations the AD has. Often though, it's a tricky issue. If you're a coach who's trying to move up to prestige teams, generally the ones that will hire you are ones who have already fired their coaches (and created openings) or had the rare coach retirement. Sometimes they seem to have a chip on their shoulder. I took over Syracuse in 2028 in my game, which had faded over the years into a second-tier Big East team. But the AD still wanted to compete for the conference championship. Given time to build up a program, I probably could have, but since my half of the conference was loaded with no less than 3 top 15 teams, it was unlikely I could ever finish better than fourth. I didn't but improved the win totals each year, won the NIT my final year, but still got fired after three seasons. I saw it coming a mile away.

You're better off in some cases taking over a talented mid-major type team and building them into dominance, I did that with Utah State in a previous game. Easy conference so I almost always won it, and I gradually got to the point where I won the NCAAs.
