OT: Funny Nike, Michael Vick commercial
I am sure most of you have seen this commercial. I have seen it about 5 times this Sunday and my wife and I laughed every time it was on. The kid's screaming is funny stuff.

One of the funnier commercials that I've seen lately. I especially like the part where he does the 360 spin.

The kicker for me is at the end, where it shows the picture of him screaming ala many rollercoaster rides.

Did anyone else watch this and think...
"I would pay a ton of money to ride this..." ?

Yes. My wife said it would be a brilliant ride. As for the shoes...unless they have some kind of super-robotic ability, I'm not paying $120 dollars for a pair of sneakers. Never have, never will. |

I hope you wouldn't pay more than $120 for such a ride, since this and all other shoe commercials prove that once you have the shoes, you'll be just as good as the super-athlete pimping them. Although I've never bought a pair of athletic shoes for more than $50, I aassume that once you buy an expensive pair like these, you can make your own commercial.

I liked it the first couple times but I think I've already had it with that spot. I can envision 537 more views for me and that's making me ill.

Most definately not... I'm with you on $50 at most for athletic shoes... once you get above that you are not paying for quality, but name and looks.... you can get a good, solid quality and aestheticly pleasing shoe for $50.. no reason to spend more...

I could probably spend less than $50, but I need wide shoes, and they are difficult to find. I think I got my New Balance for $50.

Great commercial. But it makes me wonder if Vick has a bit of a ceiling in terms of marketability. He seems to be utterly devoid of any charisma -- and despite his exciting on-field play, that's a pretty important element of marketing a sports figure. Just curious.

His speaking voice is no worse than Shaq's, and Shaq is plenty marketable. Shaq's monotone delivery makes Kevin Costner sound like a great actor.

I agree that Shaq doesn't have much inflection -- but he does have charisma and presence. I think it's more than just "acting skills" involved. Part of it is probably Shaq's size -- but his smile helps, too. So far, I see none of that in Vick (in the limited appearances I have seen from him). |

Certainly understandable. I wasn't trying to be critical -- just making an observation. By the way - I don't think I have ever seen Va Tech called the "Virginia Tech Institute" before. VPI, sure, but never...uh... VTI. |

If you have one, you could find a Nike outlet and buy 3 pairs of shoes for about $90 and all of them are very good quality. |

As Vick becomes more mature he will get better in front of the camera. I have noticed other players who came across like a piece of wood in interviews early in their career, but became more comfortable later
