Gah. Horrible. But I guess I'm going to have to live with it. I want them to lose just so Brady is never compared to Montana again.

Even if Brady wins this Superbowl, I can't see a comparison to Montana. He just hasn't been there long enough. Montana was a great QB for a decade, at least. Brady still needs some more great seasons. They don't all have to be Super Bowl seasons, but he's only started for 4, and in none of those years did he throw for 30+ TDs (granted, Montana only had one), but Brady has also thrown at least 12 INTs each year, while Montana had several season throwing fewer than 12 INTs. Brady's career YPA is 6.90, Montana's is 7.52. Brady's career Cmp% is 61.6%, Montana 63.2%.

The point is, Brady needs to keep this up for a good 5 more season before I think anyone can seriously give an argument that Brady is on the same level as Montana. (And let's face it, Brady isn't exactly going against teams in the playoffs that are really comparable to the Bears, Giants and the Redskins of the 80's.)

The thing about Brady is that he's only been in the league for 5 years, a starter for 4 years ...and this is his 3rd time leading his team to the SuperBowl !
Imagine he wins another with a 3rd SuperBowl MVP title...

amazing. It clearly defies NFL history...and what we are supposed to witness.

Hell I find it hard to put Brady in my top 10 with the likes of Super Joe, Marino, Elway, Foutes, Moon, Stabler, Farve, Young, Unitas.

Ask me again in 2-3 years

If New England wins, he'll be in the top 3 clutch QB's of all time.

Frankly, the Montana comparison isn't absurd.

Until Tom Brady says "Hey look, there's John Candy. Let's drive 92 yards in 3:20 and win this thing", Joe Montana is better!

I think he said "Hey, look over there. It's Kurt Warner's brother. Oh, I mean wife." and then drove to the winning field goal with a minute left.

I say Brady. Montana has a much better roster around him, filled with Pro Bowlers, ect. in the then-free spending days. Brady has good players, but not even close to what Montana had.

Montana is great.

Brady is very good.

How does Brady get great?

By continuing what he's doing (not the pace, if he continued to win Super Bowls at a 2 out of 3, or 3 out of 4 rate the rest of his career, they wouldn't compare him to Montana, they'd compare him to the Pope.... more like remain a good QB, win some clutch games, etcetera) for another 5-10 years.

If you preface it with, "at this point in his career," isn't it clearly Brady?

It took Montana 8 seasons to get to his 3rd Super Bowl. Brady's completion percentage is comparable to Montana's and he's thrown for more touchdowns and yards at this point in his career. Obviously, that comparison isn't perfect because of the greater importance of the short passing game today and the fact that this year is the first year the Pats have had a real stud at RB, but still the numbers are as good or better than Montana's at this point and he's ahead of where Montana was in championship terms.

Everyone knows Rick Mirer was the best quarterback to ever come out of Notre Dame. Therefore, it must be Brady.

1) Montana, without hesitation nor doubt.

2) Mad props to TLK & Ragone for working in their earlier reference.
