Plus Crouch is about 45 lbs lighter.

TE would be interesting. He's certainly tough enough. I've seen that guy pop right up from thoes hits that make everyone in the stadium involuntarially go "OHHHH"

Crouch comes to mind.

Frost, the other Nebraska QB, was moved to safety.

Bellisari from Ohio State I believe was tried out at safety as well, but I don't think he made it for the Rams.

It's not exactly the same thing (senior starting college QB to NFL DB), but VT has had a couple of guys who were switched from QB to safety late in their college careers that have found homes in the pros...mostly for special teams, but both Kevin McCadam (Falcons) and Nick Sorenson (Rams) have played some in the secondary as well.

Steve Bellisari got drafted and played a little Safety for the Rams. He was better suited for Safety in college than he was for Quarterback anyway.

Crouch's issues weren't because he physically couldn't play the position. He was convinced he was a QB and he wasn't willing to play anything else. He probably would have done fairly well if he would have been willing to stick with it at wideout.

Here's what the Great Blue North guys have said about Jones in practice.

That wouldn't be a problem with Jones. I'm pretty sure he would prefer not to be "the leader".

I am pretty certain the discussion was centered around white college QBs that made the switch to something else.

Man, I was wrong on the 40 time. But I still don't think he's as fast on the field as that 40 time represents. Dak Pearson of Texas walked him down last year without much problem. Pearson is fast, but he's not 4.2 fast.

Either way, Jones is definitely a very nice prospect.

If Jones really is tight end big and running a legit 4.4... he won't be there for anyone in round three. He'll be one of those guys with a big up arrow by his name come draft day, and he'll get picked in the middle of round two or earlier, even if he has no position.

I would have agreed on 40 time(was surprised to see the 4.4 times) but i disagree with his field speed. First, his field speed is deceptive at first glance, hes a long strider and looks like hes going much slower than he is. As far as being caught from behind, he has a patient style at times, because he does make some stop and go moves as a runner. He does need to learn to hit the jets a little more with the ball in his hands when he has the opporitunity. That being said, I have seen him burn too many speedsters in the SEC to agree with him not having high end field speed. When he turns the burners on, he can outrun CBs that have very favorable angles on him. Didn't he once burn Texas for a 80 yard TD?

Bingo. This kid outran defenders in the SEC, even against Auburn, Florida and Georgia--teams known for having some pretty serious team speed.

Man this guy could cause some serious match up problems, especially if he goes to a team that likes to throw to backs - who's the safety going to cover - the back or Jones?
