Just got this in my email. First of all, I've never heard of WAMU Bank. Second of all, the page is hosted on an aol member site. WTF? Couldn't they try to hide it just a little better than that?

WAMU is short for Washington Mutual Bank.

Very poorly designed scam, but then again, I would think most people that get sucked in by these things aren't smart enough to look at the link at wonder about the address.

Of course, anyone with a brain knows that a bank wouldn't ask to give personal info like this over e-mail in the first place.

I got an updated version of this

1. Login to your Washington Mutual Internet Banking account. In case you are not enrolled for Internet Banking, you will have to use your Social Security Number as both your Personal ID and Password and fill in all the required information, including your name and your account number.

2. Review your recent account history for any unauthorized withdrawals or deposits, and check your account profile to make sure not changes have been made. If any unauthorized activity has taken place on your account, report this to Washington Mutual staff immediately.

WaMu just started getting into the Chicago market, and they have ads EVERYWHERE. If you get WGN and watch that for a while, you're bound to see a few of their commercials.

Yeah, when I was out there last summer I opened a WAMU account, knowing it'd be easy to transfer stuff once I was back in Seattle.

What's funny about WAMU's expansion is that their ad campaigns in the late '80's/early '90's was all about how, unlike almost every other bank in the state, they weren't some "outsiders" from California moving into town but were the last Washington-based major bank in the state.

Along the lines of phishing, I get about 5-10 of these a day. Most of them from "jewelers" or "aritsts" or something like that. Apparently, in the UK, they can't write very well...

would help me recieve payments from my customers in the states.i mean
someone that is responsible and reliable,cause the cost of coming to

payments are in money order and they would come to you in your name,
so all you need do is cash the money order deduct your percentage and
wire the rest back. But the problem i have is trust,But i have my way
of getting anyone that gets away with our money,i mean the FBI branch
in Washington gets involved. It wouldnt cost u any amount,u are to
receive payments which will be sent to u by fedex or usps from my
business patners,which would come in form of a money order then to
cash it and send the cash to me via western union money transfer or
moneygram money ransfer,all transfer fees should be deducted from the

very rarely, financial institutions and other businesses don't have the resources to spend on special investigation units and law enforcement will generally not touch stuff like this unless someone hands a slam dunk case to them.

Losses incurred by financial institutions are passed on to consumers in the form of higer fees (invisible). It is all just the cost of doing business. The real visible damage is the effect to a person who has their identity stolen and the 80 plus hours they spend trying to correct it. Not to mention the money paid restoring their identity.
