His use of the word "mayhap" totally discredits him. Didn't read past that, tbh.

By the same logic, Denny's is in business solely to extract Coffee money from me.

There are far better reasons not to eat at the OG.

Don't buy the wine. If the food isn't worth it, then don't eat there.

Pretty simple.

Thank you spin doctors. I want Jeeber to refute these charges.

This well written article seeped with extensive data has really spun my world upside down. How can I expect to eat somewhere when I know that they are trying to maximize profits? This is unheard of in the business community.

I've been to OG once or twice in the past few months, and I can't say I notice them overly pushing the wine. But then that web site was written in the mid '70's, so way to be timely with these charges, Senator.

What a great essay. Unfortunately, I doubt it will make a dent in the collective consumer habits of America's burgeoning lemming population...

Mayhap you might consider that providing wine selections with dinner is an attempt at improving the relationship between Olive Garden and customer. Especially knowing that only the atypical Olive Garden denizen is likely to be well-versed in the lineage of the listed vineyards?

The website isn't loading for me. When I can get it to work then I'll come back with a reply...

Oh, and we do push wine a TON! We're supposed to recommend a wine and ask if the guests want a sample three/four times during their meal. Once when they order drinks, once when they order their food, once when the GET their food, and once if/when they order dessert. Personally, if a table tells me once that they don't want wine I'm not gonna force it on them. I'm there to make money, and pushing a product on them that they don't want isn't a way to do that...

Did you guys see the Coke/Olive Garden program aimed at keeping customers from ordering tap water? It was linked to in the essay.

http://www.stayfreemagazine.org/public/coke.html

I liked this opening: "Water. It's necessary to sustain life, but to many Casual Dining restaurant chains it contributes to a dull dining experience to the customer."

It's called H2NO.

Guess where we ate tonight. I tried for Carrabba's, but the wife likes the salad and breadsticks.

Anyway, they brought wine over only once, and took both of our water orders (kids had milk) without a problem.

We're supposed to offer you San Peligrino sparkling water or Aqua Panna still water...neither of which I do.

I dunno, I think Carrabba's food is light years better than OG's. Then again, you also pay for it- Carrabba's is $5-10 more per person.

Yeah, that one bugged me a lot. I *like* water. It doesn't ruin my dining experience. And I can tell when some places don't want you to drink it and it's annoys the heck out of me. I tend to drink 3-4 glasses with a meal as, usually, when I'm going out to eat, it's after a long day so 2 of those are downed before food even makes it. But there are those places who just won't come by and refill your water, except, begrudginly, when you get your food because, at least, at that point, you can flag them down.

Why no love for OG? It does what it does. The hatred should be collectively unleashed on Applebees.

Fixed that for you.
Talk about a restaurant that can really kill breakfast (and I would eat breakfast foods 3 meals a day if it were feasible with my schedule).
